I feel (strongly) that anyone caught doing anything to that statue should get the death penalty. There are a few things even the most idiotic criminals don't do and this is one of them.
On a handout we got at work about vandalism (I think it was from the local PD or Keep America Beautiful), it said to take photos of vandalism to show the police, but said not to post such photos online, because this only gives the tag more visibility and makes it last after it's been removed, all of which encourages rival taggers and encourages the original tagger to try and become even more notorious.
Either Rachel knows the tagger and is helping publicize their work, or Rachel didn't think that maybe it's related to the current massive ecological disaster that's been going on for the last month+.
Get her, psycho attack dog! You've solved the case!! It was Rachel all along!
Or, as she's said in a number of places (WBUR article, Twitter, etc.), "Better Prey" was written in graffiti on the sidewalk in front of the BP'd ducks.
She's somebody walking through the Public Garden who was outraged by what she saw, so she posted a photo online (it's the thing to do these days) AND called the city. Is that that hard to understand?
It's ok, Brett makes a valid point. Due to the nature of Twitter - 140 characters and whatnot - my original tweet wasn't very clear. The only graffiti visible in the photo I posted was "BP," and I just saw "better prey" on the ground nearby but didn't photograph it or explain it. Once I realized that a lot of people were looking at the photo, I added some additional information later in the day to clarify the "better prey" part. (And no, I don't know the tagger. To the best of my knowledge, I don't tend to hang around with vandals.)

No-talent taggers
Way to get up on a six-inch-tall duck, jackass.
BP? British Petroleum? Gulf
BP? British Petroleum? Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill. Oil covered wildlife! Makes sense.
did you call the mayors
did you call the mayors hotline and report it so it can be removed?
Yep, I submitted a report
Yep, I submitted a report online. Supposedly they'll get to it within 24 hours. I'll check the status a bit later and post an update here.
Fast work by parks department
WBUR tweets at 2:33 p.m. that the graffiti is already gone.

Posting photos online adds to the problem

Sculptor reacts with disgust
Nancy Schon has some choice words for whoever desecrated the duckling statues she created for the Public Garden, WBUR reports.
how does she know who the graffiti artist is?
It says "BP"; how is that "Better Prey"?

Go, Brett, go!

None of which was linked to in Adam's article
...and I don't follow twitter, because it's for self-centered twits like you.
Sorry, I have a life, not time to go and do comprehensive research on every UHub post.
brett
thats the funniest thing you have ever posted.
"I don't have time to do
"I don't have time to do research on posts, but I do have time to post defamatory comments and then defend them". Nice.

Uh, Brett?
How about if you RTFA before going off?
I did
Where does she explain how she got "Better Prey" from "BP"?
Valid point
