I haven't been able to find 101.7 on my (ancient) clock radio since before Christmas -- it cut out suddenly (maybe on the 22nd). I've been wondering if something was up. I'm sure it's more related to the fact that I've had the thing since Jr. High than the end of the Sandbox, of course.
Anyone else find it interesting that the crew that had Yoon on so often and attacked Menino almost every day during the campaign was thrown onto the street the same day Menino took his fifth term in office?
Yoon is out, Sandbox is out. Not a good day to be a hipster.
They didn't last long... They didn't start out too bad, but the last few months they've been getting out of hand. More program and less music. The 'games' getting more and more obscure. It felt more like I was listening to roommates fighting and not a radio show. Actually, the last month it's been annoying enough I switched to ERS in the morning.
good. those guys were terrible. here is a novel idea, play some music int he morning. when im tooling down 128 i iike hearing some tunes not listening to some jerks from virginia telling juvenile stories. more music please. ive been listening to power 88, dean colleges station. they play everything from the 60's classic rock up to the most current stuff.
Not everyone wants to listen to music in the morning. I used to like music radio, before I worked a city summer job with radios in the car and heard the same 40 songs every day on repeat, for the most part. Now I love morning chatty shows. Just saying.
Boston has the most vibrant college radio scene in the country, where you sure as hell won't hear the same songs on repeat every day. Why listen to commercial radio in the first place?
The problem with radio is that people have Ipods now so those people that really just want music bring their own music. I want a mix of the two and FNX always seemed to have a good mix. When I am sitting in bumper to bumper traffic having back to back music with good beats actually annoys me because I can't move. Radio talk shows engage you and sometimes I find myself waiting in my car, parked in a spot to listen until the end of a story/rant/etc.
The biggest problem with the FNX morning show is that there was a high learning curve for new listeners. It assumed everyone was versed in 80's nostalgia and non regular listeners to the show would be rather confused if they turned in for the first time as many of the topics of discussion were built off of previous discussions. This is why I enjoyed it because while it came off as stupid to non regular listeners it had multiple layers hidden under the frat boy exterior. To me it was like watching an episode of the Simpsons from 90's (back when it was a smarter show.)
I listened to the show this morning and it felt more like a round table discussion hosted by Henry Santoro, I found it lame and boring, like fitting a square peg into a round hole. I switched to 96.9 where, amazingly, I found a more lively edgy discussion. Who would have thunk it?
The morning show was entertaining enough and it's a shame they canned it, but I think the real problem is in the afternoon. Adam 12 was the worst regular BCN DJ by far, in that he constantly talks about how cool the song or group he's playing is, without being entertaining or informative. Terrible move.
Also shocking, shocking!, that instead of adding any female DJs they're recycling a BCN jock.
Adam12 started in Boston at FNX, you know... he did alter his persona a bit at BCN, but I expect he'll return to his regular/better self in short time.
There was nothing I enjoyed more than my drive to work in the morning and laughing my ass off to those kooky boys. WFNX went from having the best morning show ever to having just another morning show, Dakin is boresville. IPod here I come.
The sandbox is what kept me listening to the radio (not even FNX) over my ipod. It was nerdy and unique, nothing else like it on the radio. I hate Adam 12's on air vibe, it reminds me of the commercial douchey-ness that I hated about the old WBCN. Oh well, I was a loyal listener for many years, but my morning and afternoon drive is going back to ipod mode.
I wish them the best of luck, I liked the show, but the problem with internet podcasts is it requires more work. I LIKED the show but am not sure how willing I am to admit to or think of downloading their podcast and bringing it with me everyday. What I liked about the show on the radio was I could turn them on when I jumped in the car and sometimes click them back on when I hit the office.

Ack!... this likely means yet
Ack!... this likely means yet another frequency (soon to be) taken over by conservative blow-hard BS talk-radio.
How about
a show that doesn't need a cutesy name
talent that knows the area
djs who don't use junior high aliases
oh, wait. that would make the station WERS
Anyone else find it

Power 88 radio?
I'm surprised you can get that on 128, given that it's right next to MIT's WMBR 88.1 .
power 88
i lose it as i approach boston. i get it clear as a bell out in the sticks.
