South End getting Puerto Rican restaurant
By adamg on Fri, 11/16/2012 - 7:30am
Angel Carraquillo is planning a Dec. 1 opening for Mana Escondido Cafe, 68 Pembroke St., where he says he'll dish up Puerto Rican specialties such as mofongo, as well as some dishes he says are currently unavailable anywhere in Massachusetts.
The offices of the mayor and at-large City Councilor Felix Arroyo declared themselves "delighted" and "extremely excited," respectively, at a Boston Licensing Board hearing on the proposal on Wednesday.
Mana Escondido will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

South End getting another Puerto Rican restaurant.
I ate some authentic Puerto Rican cuisine (including, as it happens, some delicious mofongo) two weeks ago at Vejigantes (57 W. Dedham St.). The place was mobbed, and everyone (patrons and staff) seemed to be very happy. The food was excellent and very reasonable. Even though it seems out of place with temps in the 30s, try a mango-flavored mojito.
