ugh.. so by labor day we'll see Christmas displays. Maybe even sooner.
I wish Retailers would get it thru their heads that pushing holidays on his months before doesn't get us to shop anymore. And honestly, what idiot is going to by a Christmas Tree in September at full retail cost, when they can wait until November and get it 20,30,40 percent off.
People are going to shop regardless of which holiday is being pushed months in advance.
Expiration date on that candy?
i wonder if that's last year's stuff.
It does say Buy 1 Get 1 Free,
It does say Buy 1 Get 1 Free, so it's probably last year's leftovers. Or at least Easter's leftovers re-marketed as Halloween candy.
What?? NOooooo!! Sick of this
What?? NOooooo!! Sick of this early holiday crap in stores.
What's next, Easter in October?
The shaw's on western ave in
The shaw's on western ave in Allston already has an oddly located Halloween display as well. I say oddly located because it is near the meats.
So that's Shaws and Stop-n-shop....what do they have in common?
They're the two grocery chains I can think of that are quickly becoming irrelevant. This is despite one (or is it both?) opening a new location(s) not far from where I live.
Market Basket absolutely kicks both of their asses, with better prices. And on the other end of things, Whole Foods is expanding too, not to mention Wegmans coming to town. Roche Bros is better than them as well, although they don't have as many locations.
There are fewer and fewer reasons to shop at Shaws or Stop n Shop. But if you want your Halloween Candy extra early then go knock yourself out.
Granted, my argument is in the shitter if the next time I go into Market Basket THEY have Halloween candy on sale, but the whole idea of doing this seems like a symptom of general irrelevance.
Nah
I was just in the Chelsea Market Basket yesterday and I didn't see any candy yet. They still have mainly summer/back to school stuff out Like lots of coolers and ice packs.. a few dorm/locker things. Notepads, pencils. All back to school stuff, even some summer stuff still.
Remember Market Basket is old school, which includes old school Marketing beliefs, and they still believe in separate holidays and none of this push-holidays-months-in-advance crap most stores do. Market Basket also will not decorate before the holidays. They even do fall/thanksgiving themed decor, which is nice since most stores jump right to Christmas after Halloween.
Plus Market Basket is mainly a cash business, so why spend cash and buy a bunch of Halloween stuff now that is going to sit in a warehouse unsold for a month or so OR sit in a store occupying valuable floor space that could have products that WILL sell (like coolers and ice packs and BBQ sauce).
And stuff moves so quickly at Market Basket that it'll be long gone before the holiday, while at S&S and Shaw's, that candy in that picture will end up in the discount bin on Nov 1st..
In my house...
This would mean watching the halloween chocolate melt into unformed blobs, or sticking it in the fridge for a month and a half...gross either way!
