Angel once again flies down to meet Madonna in the North End

Flight of the Angel in Boston's North End

RoadTrip New England shows us tonight's climax of the Fisherman's Feast in the North End: When a girl dressed as an angel comes flying out of a third-floor window to greet the Madonna.

NorthEndWaterfront.com has photos of the Blessing of the Waters at the start of the feast on Friday.

What kid wouldn't want to be that girl who gets to fly?

I went in 2009, and man, that poor girl was terrified. You could see her in the window crying her little eyes out as her father tried to comfort her. They had a backup angel all dressed up and ready to go in case the primary decided she was too scared. It was an intense experience for everyone involved, I expect, but she managed to be lowered down to the idol and do her prayers, complete with pope hand motions. I doubt it's like that every year, but it was the closest thing to a human sacrifice I expect I'll ever see.

How do they pick them? Do they rehearse? That might be one way to make sure the girl in question is up for the flight.

Only three Boston Police officers injured at Fisherman's Feast Dominican Festival. Getting my festivals mixed up. Sorry.

When's the Hot Country Music and Flag-Waving Pickup Yahoo Jambaroo at Great Woods this year? That's good for a few dozen arrests every summer.

How many arrests of Habs fans last year?

Having bought illegal fireworks in the North End back in my teen days, while a "detail cop" in BPD uniform monitored the proceedings, I find fishy's bullshit a bit precious.
