Andrew Davis in South Boston was among the many who wondered what was burning on the South Shore this afternoon. It was a tire dump on Hobart Road in Hingham.

Visible from Cape Ann
There was so much smoke, it was easily visible from Rockport. We busted out the telescope but couldn't determine where it was coming from; Twitter later confirmed it was the dump in Hingham. On the marine radio I heard a Coast Guard ship checking out the source of the smoke, before deciding that it was located well inland.
Tire dump fire today in Hingham Ma.
My wife and I could see the smoke from Skaket Beach in Orleans on Cape Cod.
"Hingham" and "Tire Dump"
Not words that you expect to see together.
I wonder what Brian McGrory's take is going to be on this (other than to blame cyclists somehow).

Hingham had a dump in that
Hingham had a dump in that area once , not sure what's happening there now. Miight be connected. As an added remembrance ,at the same time the Hingham dump was functioning , I knew a guy that used to run trailer loads of fish renderings down from Maine and backhaul loads of tires to be burnt on an island that he owned .
