Tremont Street was wide open at 8 a.m. as people heeded warnings and stayed home. Photo by Pilotblock.
MiMu captured a similar scene on the platform at Roxbury Crossing on the Orange Line shortly after 9 a.m.:

Welp
They just made french toast on the Today show
Hilarious
Got a woe-is-me email at about the same time, from the one person showing up to my office. He declared that conditions are already really bad in Boston (a lie, disproven by the above photo). Proceeded to pat himself on the back for making the effort to take the (wasted) time to drive in. Then finally announced that he's leaving midday to make the commute home (additional time wasted driving), since he was the only one dedicated enough to go in today.
Translation: he's leaving the office midday so he can drive home before the REAL snow starts, and he's the only one STUPID enough to waste at least two hours in his car while the rest of us have been productively working from home the entire time.
Nice going, buddy. I'm sure you're up for a promotion any day now. Don't injure yourself patting yourself on the back!
Let me guess ...
Mr. Fortitude is also That Guy Who Starts The Office Plagues by coming in sick just to show how dedicated he is.
When the H1N1 epidemic was raging, I worked one place where the organization president came out and was literally screaming at one of the accounting people about "infecting the whole fucking Boston area with this shit". Dude was put in a cab and sent home.
He was playing hero, and making sure we all knew that, but nearly lost his job. (There had been memos and staff meeting announcements).
Hope he makes it home okay.
Some people don't have the luxury of staying home
I'm surprised at the cavalier attitude on this thread implying that it's almost one's DUTY to stay home. I once worked at a call center type company in the Fort Point area that provided concierge services to wealthy people and heaven help anyone that stayed home come hell, high water or blizzard. An email would go around if there was a prediction of bad weather, worded something like "we values the safety of our employees but keep in mind our clients expect the best of us" or some such bull. I'm not kidding. People were actually penalized even for being a few minutes late during inclement water (just as they were if there were no inclement weather), let alone not coming in at all. Similar for health reasons. I recall someone even putting off a surgical procedure because they couldn't get the time off. Granted, this horror show of a company was a bit extreme, but I'm sure there are varying degrees of this existing in many companies out there. So don't be so quick to judge.
Hmm
Sounds pretty smart to me. I'll be hip tied to a Laptop and phone all day myself, and wouldn't mind a nice joyride in the afternoon.
Thanks for the earworm
Enjoy the scenes of the Ol Fort Point area and h/t to johnmcboston, for posting this to youtube.
Does this also sound smart?:
Getting caught exaggerating, becoming the laughingstock of the office, having shown one's lying ass to the world? Yeah smart as a bag of hammers.
Saw plenty of UPS trucks
Saw plenty of UPS trucks going about their business , and some of those guys will get in late , having worked outside in this stuff. No parades for them!
Snow...
Snowzilla
Snowmeggedon
Snowpocalipse
Snow doubt about it we are in for a biggun'
It seems like there's
It seems like there's inklings of snow next week as well. So far nothing as impressive but will this be a repeat of two years ago?
Yep
Worst/best case scenario for Boston parents/kids.
Thursday - snow day
Friday - too much snow on the roads for buses so snow day # 2
Monday - 3-5" of snow = snow day # 3
Not exactly a killer storm up to this point
I hear that the heavy part of the storm has moved down to starting at 2 not, 11. There are 2 inches on the ground after 4 hours of snow in downtown Boston.
Intensifying
Snowfall and wind have intensified here in Symphony. Lovely photo.
Agreed
There was just 2 inches up noon and now there is another 2 inches in the last 90 minutes.
