Guy who got shot at in the North End was already bracing for trouble

WCVB interviewed Rocco Giovenello, whom they say was the man standing outside Modern Pastry when Patrick Mendoza, according to police, tried to shoot him to death Wednesday night. He and the Mendozas have history, he said.

Don’t see the Giovenello interview though….

I think bento boxes are definitely making a comeback. With so many different options, there’s something for the whole family. And they are so practical - much easier to get in more than one food group, when the bento is set up for it.

WCVB has this weird infinite-scroll thing going on, so sometimes you get the URL for the following story instead of the one you want to link.

Adam, any word on whether Monica's liquor license is going to be suspended? And have you heard why Patrick Mendoza had a probation hearing earlier that day?

If the owner of any other restaurant in the city attempted to kill someone then went on the run, I'm pretty confident the licensing board would be looking hard at suspending the license, at least until he turned himself in.

Would it make a difference to the licensing board that there are multiple owners (though most or all within the family)? I would imagine the other owners are getting their legal ducks in a row regarding possible ownership transfer, etc?

If he does transfer ownership, then I think that would take care of it. That is, assuming the other brothers are cooperative with the board and don't have criminal histories themselves-- at least, not violent ones.

Right now, it doesn't sound like he has given up ownership and on top of that, he's not cooperating with police. Furthermore, he's already on probation for something (I don't know what) so he will have probation violations on top of attempted manslaughter.

It's a weekend so the board isn't meeting, but Monica's should be treated the same as any other restaurant. We'll see on Monday, I guess.

They should get him for not wearing a helmet and not obeying traffic laws.

Massachusetts helmet laws apply to children under 16 only.

Im glad the Mayor and staff alerted Boston Police about these complete menaces to society. Joe Battenfeld is more than welcome to have these fine people over to his house for dinner. SMH.

Is this the "way things used to be" that so many people of a certain age turn misty/aggro about on Facebook?
