On the Underground in London, all of their train platforms have the prominently displayed signs reading Mind The Gap. It goes beyond the obvious reason which caught this Orange Line passenger off guard. In England, their trains have two different widths, by a few inches. Because of that, some of the trains that pull into and out of the stations have an extra wide gap between the platform and the train. You have to be especially careful there.
You have to be careful anytime you're stepping onto or out of any train, and this woman apparently wasn't particularly mindful of the gap.

Victim blaming.

and elevated platforms is an unavoidable consequence of the fact it is an elevated platform. Reminding people of the presence of the gap so they can exercise caution is a reasonable response.

Crying “victim blaming” only feeds the growing concept society has unfortunately embraced that people should never be held responsible for their actions.

…. other privileged persons such as corporations should never be held responsible for their actions.

There are many possible reasons this woman may have ended up with her leg trapped between the train and the platform despite exercising caution. The MBTA needs to be mindful of it’s gap in safety measures and design.

I'm only an occasional rider on the Orange Line. Most of my T time is spent on the Red Line.

That having been said, it just me or is the the gap on the new OL cars larger than the gap on the old cars? If so, the specs of the new trains are different.

(I've rarely seen the one new train of Red LIne cars and I haven't noticed any difference)

Any number of things could have happened. She may have stumbled, she may have balance problems, she may have been jostled.

"The T notes it did not move the train until after the woman was freed."

So we don't know exactly what happened but the MBTA has to make sure they add that time it wasn't their fault.

They're saying that this time they didn't drag someone to their death.
