Black-organized marathon alarms one city councilor

The Herald and the Globe report Councilor Ed Flynn was alarmed when 200 runners raced through his district in the 26.True race.

Among those not concerned: Mayor Wu.

But whatever the reason for the complaints from his constituents and his choice to act on them, it IS disturbing to see people having to step into the street on some of South Boston’s streets. Especially Day Boulevard. Anywhere in Boston.

He was asking and he got an answer.

May all go well for the runners and any other street users.

It’s great to see Flynn talking about how dangerous streets in Boston are for pedestrians, acknowledging the fatal accidents that happen on day blvd. none for this event of course. So I only hope he starts advocating for safer streets in south Boston the other 364 days a year, slower speed limits, police enforcement of stop signs and red lights, removing traffic and or parking lanes to widen the sidewalks he says are very narrow.

Did he drive him to the airport?
Did he row him out in a dinghy from the Reserve Channel to Boston Light in the dark of a new moon some night to meet a submarine?

Believed? By whom? The same "everybody" that Trump cites to back up his stories?

There's plenty of room to rationally criticize and be angry at Law for what he actually did (or didn't) do. Have at it!!!

These conspiracy-theorists fever dreams, however, have no basis in reality.

Here are some facts to get you started.
- Law was not "about to be arrested"
- if authorities were going to "arrest" him, they could have started proceedings to bring charges even after he left the country
- Law traveled back and forth between USA & Vatican for years.

Oh, and by the time Law "escaped", Flynn had been an ex-Mayor for maybe 10 years and an ex-Ambassador for at least 5 years. I don't doubt he could have called some people actually serving then and expressed his concern, but it wasn't as if he could make things happen.

The city really should close streets and/or block intersections for this group. It would be more enjoyable for the runners and safer for everyone. Doesn't seem like too much to ask given how many people participated.

to block streets you need police details and they block it much longer than needed. It's fine for runners to rest-on-red and cross the road like a normal pedestrian.

The real story here is Michelle Wu calling this "the real Boston Marathon" as if the actual Boston Marathon is somehow not the greatest race in the world.

How does one define "Boston"?

There is 40-something square miles of land that constitutes the City of Boston, and the 26.True race takes place entirely within those boundaries. And there's a major marathon run by the Boston Athletic Association that runs through, and ends in the City of Boston, but starts in a town that is around 20 miles away from the border of the City of Boston.

These dangerous intersections should have a regular police presence regardless of any road race. Scofflaws should be heavily fined and immediately have their license suspended, similar to how temporary restraining orders for domestic violence are issued till the person has a court date and can provide justification for why they should be allowed to drive again.

"“Residents reported that runners were running on sidewalks, weaving around baby carriages, and even running in vehicular traffic lanes,” Flynn wrote in the letter. “This poses serious safety issues for both the runners and pedestrians in a high-traffic area that has unfortunately had serious and fatal crashes, on both Day Boulevard and L Street.”"

...then do something about the people causing those serious and fatal crashes, ie the drivers.

Every time they quote Ms. Lash (seemingly weekly) the Globe needs to note her stated goal which she made clear last year two days prior to causing a conflict at mile 21. This is all part of a grand plan to end the Boston Marathon as we know it because it is white supremacist to her.

"Even if 26.True could keep growing, for Lash, the real sign of a more inclusive Boston running community isn’t necessarily just a bigger 26.True.

'My dream is for the Boston Marathon to change the course,” she said. “I don’t want to do this event. When I tell you the amount of hundreds of hours that I’ve invested out of the volunteer goodness of my heart, like I have a full-time job and I do this on the side. It is a lot of work, and it’s a passion project. So we lead and we do it because we care a lot. But my real dream is for the BAA to see what we’re creating, to be convinced by the exclusivity of their event, and for them to change the course so that we don’t have to do 26.True.'”

Every course is different, every environment is diffeent, every race has its own features - and that's a good thing. So, there are course records rather than a world record.
