Man arrested in Nairobi for murder of woman whose body was found in a car at Logan

Nairobi News reports police there have arrested Kevin Kangethe, formerly of Lowell, to face charges here that he murdered his girlfriend, Margaret Mbitu, drove her body to Logan Airport and then got on a plane to Kenya last November 1.

Both Kangethe and Mbitu were originally from Kenya. At the time of her murder, Mbitu lived in Whitman. Mbitu was planning on breaking up with him, the News reports. The News adds Kangethe was arrested at a club in the city's upscale Westlands neighborhood, home to expats and high-rise apartments.

Mbitu was a 2020 graduate of Curry College's nursing program.

In a statement, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said:

I'm extremely grateful to the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service, the FBI, Kenyan law enforcement agencies, the Kenyan government and the Massachusetts State Police for bringing the person accused of Margaret Mbitu’s brutal murder into custody. Their tremendous and untiring efforts will provide Margaret’s family and friends the opportunity to see Kevin Kangethe face justice for this terrible crime.
