Police kept not bringing charges against Uber driver now accused of nine rapes over four years

WBUR examines the case of Alvin Campbell, whom police in Boston and Medford did not charge for rapes even as women came forward, until 2020. Yes, he's the brother of state Attorney General Andrea Campbell, but the station says the pattern is hardly unique to him.

This is fucking appalling. I wonder when (never) we'll hear from the esteemed Attorney General on this. You can hear the sound of circling wagons, if you can listen past the sobs from this fuckheads victims.

Based on her statement, though, the Attorney General strongly supports full prosecution. That really should be good enough, unless you or somebody else can prove she did know about this and/or exerted influence on the cases not being investigated.

We knew about this during the campaign/election in 2022.

Campbell does not need to answer for her brother’s horrific behavior. I also doubt the plausibility of BPD or Medford PD giving preferential treatment to the brother of Black woman city councilor. Maybe for a parking ticket, but rape? Who’s risking their badge for her?

The part immediately before and after that line seems pretty relevant here:

Molly McGlynn, a spokeswoman for the attorney general's office, said Andrea Campbell has recused herself from any involvement in the case, has had no contact with law enforcement about the investigation or prosecution and has not talked with her brother since his arrest.

[...]

In a statement to WBUR, Campbell said she would “never interfere with or influence any investigation, especially one involving such serious allegations.” She said the prosecution has her “unreserved support.”

“I remain horrified, heartbroken, and devastated by this case,” Attorney General Campbell said. “I support survivors of sexual assault without qualification, and I continue to pray for the survivors in this case, who have shown courage in coming forward.”
