DA: Thugs break elderly woman's shoulder as she walks home from voting in Roslindale

Alleged muggerA Hyde Park teen who keeps getting arrested and released may have finally gone too far: He's sitting in jail today on charges he and an accomplice pushed a Roslindale senior citizen to the ground - breaking her shoulder - during a mugging last evening, the Suffolk County DA's office reports.

Gamael Fleury pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on charges of unarmed robbery of a person over 60 and assault and battery in West Roxbury District Court. A judge set bail at $25,000 but ordered him locked up for violating parole on an unrelated trespassing charge. His accomplice eluded police.

The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a broken shoulder after the 6 p.m. incident on Denton Terrace (between Washington and Kittredge), the DA's office says, adding she was returning home from voting.

Prosecutors say an off-duty police officer heard the woman's cries for help outside his home and rushed to her aid, grabbing his radio as he went outside so he could radio her description of the attackers to on-duty officers. Meanwhile, another resident thought it odd two guys suddenly ran into his yard - and apparently changed shirts - so he followed them until he spotted a police officer and pointed them out.

"Only a coward would attack a 73-year-old woman from behind," DA Dan Conley said in a statement. "He's brought shame to himself and his family, and he can count on an extremely aggressive prosecution."

In September, 2007, Fleury was among three teens charged with attacking and kidnapping a pizza delivery guy in Roslindale. In March, he was one of five teens who, when trapped on a balcony at Stony Brook Common in Roslindale, allegedly began throwing bags of marijuana off the side - one of which hit a police detective in the head. In June of this year, he was arrested on a trespassing charge at the Stony Brook Common. In August, he was arrested on a charge of attempted unarmed robbery.

Two Words...

Revolving. Door.

And, Mumbles has the nerve to blame New Hampshire's gun laws for gang-related, youth violence in his city.

Seems like you're grinding

Seems like you're grinding an axe (or two). I see no evidence that this loser's crimes are in any way gang-related. And while I'm no Menino fan, I don't think I've ever heard him blame NH gun laws for non-gun violence.

If anything, the details of this crime (and the others this 'alleged' perpetrator has been involved in) provides support to arguments for tougher controls on handguns - imagine how much worse all this could have turned out if the moron had had a gun.

I hope this PoS goes away for a long time, and I'm proud of the way my neighbors reacted to this event - not by closing themselves up turtle-style when something nasty occurred, but by going to the aid of a person in need, and keeping their eyes open to what was happening around them. That's what makes a neighborhood safer, not a supply of cheap legal guns.

Returning from voting?

Your headline says "as she walks home from voting" but I don't see that anywhere in the text.

Added that

Plus, you can now read the entire press release on which my account is based (in the past, it sometimes took awhile for their press releases to show up online after they were mailed out; the gap is now much smaller, so I'll start checking as I post stuff based on them and link to the relevant release).

Three strikes?

I count five.

Maybe it's King Arthur

King: One...two...five!
Robin: Three, sir.
King: ...three!

Alleged Strikes

Until they convict him of something, they can't start counting strikes. Clearly, he's racking up alleged offenses faster than they can prosecute them. At this rate, he'll be like the Bugs Bunny cartoon where Bugs retires a whole side on one pitch.
