Homicide detectives show up whenever somebody's suffered critical injuries, just in case (they also show up for apparent suicides, for the same reason).

American Legion Highway is in West Roxbury.

VFW Parkway is in West Roxbury.

American Legion Highway runs from Hyde Park to Dorchester via Roslindale and Mattapan.

sorry adam go to Land court, look up the actual lines between WRox and Dorc. American Legion Highway is in West Roxbury. A zip code, BRA or google map designation does not a boundary make....

You're arguing that any part of 02124 (where the shooting happened) is in West Roxbury? It's not 1851 any more.

my bad I'm referring to the original west roxbury (which starts at seaver st. as a northern boundary) the line for dorchester roughly follows bha then Harvard st. At grove hall, the line is between columbia and bha. Look up any really old map-or go to land court for the docs from 1870. No zip codes that I know of were ever based on a historic boundary. Sounds like you're arguing that the line moves b/c I say so, which is why if anything bad happens in present day boston it's most likely to be in Roxbury or Dorchester.

That section is in Roxbury. Just look at any map.........oh wait, my bad. I was referring to my 1848 map which clearly shows this section of Boston is Roxbury.

In all seriousness, wasn't all of Jamaica Plain and Roslindale part of Roxbury until a few years ago? (1874)?

That property is in Dorchester now. It was right at the border between Dorchester and Roxbury - and later West Roxbury. Being cut off from the rest of Jamaica Plain by the park, as a practical matter it became part of Dorchester - the nearest residential district.

That part of American Legion Highway far predates the rest of the road. it was once part of Cantebury street, which goes back to the Colonial era.

And I'm fascinated (and, if you've been following UHub for awhile, you'll add "vexed") by Boston neighborhood lines.

But, yes, what people regard as a particular neighborhood does change occasionally. West Roxbury just does not border Franklin Park anymore (in fact, wasn't Franklin Park originally called West Roxbury Park?). I'll bet you that if an arrest is made in this case, the suspect will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court, not West Roxbury District Court (which, of course, is actually in Jamaica Plain, which is no longer part of West Roxbury, either).

is that 68 American Legion Highway is nowhere near West Roxbury.

It is on the other side of Hyde Park Ave. and Rt. 203/Morton St.

Adam provided a link to a handy map that shows this. You don't even have to justfuckinggoogleit!
