Officer shot on Esmond Street in Dorchester

Update: Man charged.

A Boston Police officer wearing a ballistic vest was shot outside 80 Esmond St. around 9:40 p.m., a couple minutes after he arrived with other officers to investigate a report of a man skulking around with a gun.

He was alert and conscious when fellow officers got him into a cruiser to speed him to Boston Medical Center.

A suspect was detained on Esmond Street shortly after.
