No honor among thieves

Suffolk County prosecutors say a clerk at the A.J. Wright store in Brighton stole an 82-year-old customer's ATM card, which her companion used to buy a $172 pair of sneakers. When arrested, the clerk complained to police that the guy was supposed to use the money to buy milk for her baby, not sneakers.

Charged with larceny over $250 are Arniya Smith, 22, of Lowell and Dennis King, 24, of Dorchester.

Prosecutors and police allege that when the elderly woman, who is legally blind, finished her transaction Friday morning, Smith didn't give her bank card back to her, instead waiting an hour to hand it to King. Prosecutors say King used the card to buy about $131 worth of groceries at a Cambridge Shaw's, then headed over to the Cambridgeside Galleria, where he allegedly picked up a pair of Air Jordan's, size 10 1/2.

Both were arrested that night at A.J. Wright when Smith's shift ended and King arrived to pick her up:

After being informed of her Miranda rights, Smith made statements that King was supposed to buy milk for her baby, not sneakers. King allegedly made statements that he had bought the sneakers, but that someone had stolen them from his vehicle.
