Is the T quietly planning an extension of its crosstown service to New York?

Eeka figured she'll use the MBTA trip planner to find the best way to get from Forest Hills station to Beech Street in Roslindale. She discovered a slight problem - the planner thought she wants to get to Beech Street from Forest Hills in Queens. And apparently that line isn't finished yet (what would they call it? The Orange G? The 34 F?).

In the meantime, as I'm sure eeka found out (or already knew), the best way to get from the real Forest Hills to Beech Street is to hop on any of the roughly 3,000 bus routes that go down Washington Street toward Dedham (and even Walpole) and then get off here (just look for the Pleasant Cafe on the right, then yell "Bus driver, stop this bus!").

Ed. skeptical note: I just tried recreating eeka's proposed itinerary, i.e., "forest hills" to start and "washington st. and beech st., roslindale" as my destination. MBTA.com replied "there are no routes within 1 mile" of Forest Hills and suggested I first get myself to Providence (148.99 miles away) or Union Station in Worcester (151.95 miles away). Guess it's a good thing I can walk to Washington and Beech from my house.

I guess Danny the G can't measure distances either

So, when did the distance from Boston to Providence RI suddenly expand to almost 150 miles?

I bet ...

It's the distance from Forest Hills, NY to Providence.

You'd be correct

It's the distance as the crow flies though. You gotta get airlifted to Providence, THEN take the MBTA.

Oopsie!

Sorry everyone. That's what I get for not reading the original post more closely.

Something's been up with the T's travel planner for several days now. I tried to plan a trip, and it kept coming up with the most ridiculous routings. Nothing this weird, though.

I used to live in Forest Hills, NY, and can attest that it's a not-quite 4 hour drive, in the middle of the night (one pitstop), about 220 miles (via Hartford, not Providence).

Some of the routings the MBTA website wanted to give me to get from central Cambridge to a place in Allston actually would have taken sizeable fractions of that time (over an hour in some cases). Yikes! I eventually gave up and did it my way.

I suppose the MBTA must contract their website out to the MBCR, based on the evidence ...

... me again ... I forgot to mention that the trip planner was unable to find my alternative departure point, Harvard Square, when I tried to plan that trip. I suppose they think it's in Kansas or something ...
