Heath Ledger

Local bloggers react to his death:

Victoria Welch writes this must be what it was like for people in their 30s and older:

... This is our first taste of what our contemporaries felt in 1955. 1970. 1971. 1993 and certainly 1994. Someone who assumed a place in the pop culture lexicon, someone we never knew but knew much of over a span of years, is suddenly gone. And while life hasn't been significantly altered, we'll wake up and go to our jobs and through our daily routines tomorrow, it's changed a little. There is a twinge of sadness for someone with whom we grew up. ...

Dan Miller counts down other artists dead of overdoses in their 20s:

... what is it about finding mega-hit commercial success and giving up on life in your late 20s?

Sad.

Lucy Starr: Shock:

... I think when older celebrities die, you have a moment of nostalgia for them and what they stood for. When young ones, like Heath Ledger, pass, you just sit there unable to believe it. He was younger than I was. He had so much more ahead of him and now it's gone and whether that was an accident due to an overdose or suicide, it's just such a waste and a loss. ...

02145: That was shocking:

... It still hasn't really cemented. It's so difficult for me to imagine why, if you've got everything going for your way, someone would ingest all those pills. ...

Supergirl: Holy shit:

Anyone who hasn't seen him in Brokeback Mountain and I'm Not There may not know what a loss this is for Hollywood.

Not to mention, you know, he was a father of a two year old, and he was only 28.

Armenian Eagle: I was shocked after hearing the news today that Heath Ledger was dead.

Howard: Well, this sucks.

Megorious: I wish I was making this up.

Riggs: True shame; he's one of the few younger actors I actually enjoyed, even in schlock like Knight's Tale and Monster's Ball.

Jim Morrison:

By independentminded | Wed, 01/23/2008 - 10:49am

Hmmm.....I thought Jim Morrison died of an alcohol-related heart attack...in his bathtub.

I admittedly hadn't heard of Heath ledger, but it's sad when people die that young.

Jim Morrison was found dead

Jim Morrison was found dead in his bathtub in Paris; no autopsy was done, so no official cause of death was ever confirmed.

Generally accepted rumor has it he died of a heroin overdose; less accepted rumor has it that he died elsewhere and his body was moved to the bathtub; all this is easily found in wikipedia (FWIW) and has nothing to do with alcohol or a heart attack.

Which is more sad

Ledger's death or these wastes of life having a tribute of their own? Seriously, these people all need to die in a firey bus crash.

If they did die in a firey bus crash

Martyrdom and conspiracy theories - just like Waco!

Hate is a virus and you can't win! There would be memorials, tribute songs by Prussian Blue, glurch-saturated rememberances, memorial calendars, anniversaries, etc.

Naw, keep 'em alive. That's that many fewer people to have tributes for.

if you find my body, please dial 911, not my friend in LA

By cantabrigiana | Thu, 01/24/2008 - 6:33am

According to the NYT, the masseuse who found his body called Mary-Kate Olsen -- who was in LA -- twice before dialing 911. Of course, the poor masseuse was probably out of her mind with panic, but still. I guess the masseuse's impulse was to try and keep things out of the public eye; if you're a masseuse who makes house calls on Heath Ledger, you're a) a very lucky woman and b) likely a model of discretion.

I dunno; if he was already

I dunno; if he was already dead, would it have mattered much who she called first? (Of course, common sense would strongly suggest calling 911 first; I don't know what Mary-Kate was supposed to do about it.)
