Herald jumps the shark

Stupor Tuesday? Tom Menino in a Giants uniform? All because Menino wants to come up with a plan to keep drunken college students from going on a rampage IF the Patriots win?

Also, WBZ 1030? That poll about whether Bostonians would rather go to a Patriots rally or vote on Tuesday? What drugs did you take when you came up with that? It's not like it's really an either/or thing, unless, of course, there are no police present, because Menino stupidly decides the Herald is right and rips up his police plan and the rally becomes the parade out of the first Batman/Joker movie (you know, the one with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson) and thousands of terrified office workers can't get home to vote because they're trapped in a murderous downtown hellhole by hundreds of marauding, angel-dust encrusted drunken college students.

Just sign me,

The mayor is just doing his

By Rob (not verified) | Wed, 01/30/2008 - 11:43am

The mayor is just doing his job. What is the alternative? Just wing the parade and see what happens? The Herald is funny sometimes but this whole thing is pretty ridiculous even for them.

Surely Bloomberg has a plan too?

By Ron Newman | Wed, 01/30/2008 - 11:52am

Even if he's not blabbing about it in public, Mike Bloomberg and his staff are surely making plans for a parade if the Giants win. They have the exact same problem to deal with -- New York's primary is also on February 5.

Good Patriots Vote

By SwirlyGrrl | Wed, 01/30/2008 - 11:49am

Why not turn it into a voter turnout campaign? Face it: you're already playing hooky from work or school, and what could be more patriotic?

Get the Pats behind it. Get the players and coaches to slip in "remember to vote" when they exuberate. Get signs out ahead of time linking the two in people's mind. Parade then vote. Vote then parade. Could there be a cheaper Public Service Campaign to be had?

They ain't called the patriots because some dumb guys 200 years ago sat on their arses and couldn't care if King George was robbin' 'em blind!

Another parade?

By John K (not verified) | Wed, 01/30/2008 - 1:28pm

Why should I be inconvenienced because people want to act stupid?

They're the New England Patriots, not "Boston" Patriots.

How about having the parade in Foxboro, where they play?

Or, better yet, Manchester, NH.

Trust me, having the parade

By Brian M (not verified) | Wed, 01/30/2008 - 2:50pm

Trust me, having the parade on the same day as the election is going to turn out to be a collossal nightmare.

The city is required by state statute to have a police officer manning each polling location. How many are there in the city? A lot, add to this the additional police that are going to be needed for the parade.

I agree, have the "rolling rally" somewhere else for a change
