At least some commuters can find out where their buses are in real time

The MetroWest Regional Transit Authority (basically, the smushing together of the old Framingham LIFT and Natick Neighborhood Bus systems), lets riders see a map on which the location of its GPS-equipped buses are updated every five seconds.

Via this Globe story, sorta, because God forbid the Globe write about a Web site and give its URL.

Bonus MWRTA fun fact: MWRTA bus route 9 is the bus that goes down Rte. 9.

Page is blank - 10:55 pm

By Ron Newman | Thu, 01/31/2008 - 11:55pm

In Safari right now, I get an entirely blank page. Maybe this is because no buses are running at this hour, but it would still be better to put up a message saying so.

Browser issue

Comes up OK in Firefox on XP. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if there's some non-Safari-ish things going on with that page, given that it's built in ASP.

In any case, there are only two buses showing and neither has moved since the time I posted the original item, no doubt because somebody forgot to turn the GPSes off on buses that are "asleep" for the night, in towns where they roll up the sidewalks even earlier than in Boston.
