Deval Patrick is a big fat liar

What makes the statement remarkable is who posted it and where: Lynne flings the accusation on Blue Mass. Group over Patrick's recent statements on casinos:

... I know that being disappointed in your leaders is par for the course in politics. I just thought this time might be a little different. Patrick has decided to hang his hat on bringing casinos to Massachusetts, ignoring large swaths of objective information, and using fear and lies to accomplish it. But it's this last part that I may not be able to forgive.

Don't worry about the Casinos

By bobmetcalf | Mon, 03/03/2008 - 4:45pm

He won't be able to implement them from
that cabinet level position in the Obama
administration.

What I don't see....

By Ron Newman | Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:23pm

is why we should be trying to attract this industry at all. I'd much rather go after the film industry, which seems to be actively interested in building one or more large studios in Massachusetts.

This is not an issue of

By Anonymous (not verified) | Mon, 03/03/2008 - 7:36pm

This is not an issue of casinos or no casinos. Some casino is coming one way or other. One of the Indian tribe's will get permission from the federal government, maybe later than sooner, but it is going to happen. This means that the state can wait for it to happen and have no to little control over it, and no revenue from it, or to be proactive and try to work out something that would allow the state to have some control and some revenue from it.

Wrong

By Lynne (not verified) | Tue, 03/04/2008 - 12:39pm

You're wrong. It can't come in unless Class III is legalized. At least, not the sort of resort casinos we're talking about.

The issue with the charity casino nights can be fought (apparently TX did it successfully) and also, we COULD just change the law and get rid of charity casino nights, couldn't we?

If Class III is not legal in MA, no casinos. It's as simple as that.

Instead, there will be

Instead, there will be glorified bingo halls. And the state will have no power to regulate them and no revenue from them.

The justification to stop

By Rob (not verified) | Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:57pm

The justification to stop casinos went out the window when the state lottery was allowed to happen. I don't think casinos are any more dangerous to society than a state-sanctioned lottery in every corner store. People in MA want to use casinos just like they use the lottery. All the money spent at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun by MA residents shows that. Three casinos is probably not the way to go, but I expect Patrick is shooting high at the moment and will settle on either one or two.

casino gambling is pretty

By pierce | Mon, 03/03/2008 - 11:59pm

casino gambling is pretty trashy and just another tax on people who can't do math, but I'm with Barney Frank on this one... who cares? My main concern is the blight on the landscape: each is like 10 walmarts, plus the parking. Allow the casinos, but require them to have green roofs and innovative parking solutions, especially if they're on the north shore areas proposed around some of the last large salt marshes in the area

suprised? not me.

... I know that being disappointed in your leaders is par for the course in politics. I just thought this time might be a little different.

I'm sorry.
this is my favorite part of that post.
what do you mean "i just thought this time might be a little different."

who thinks that?
honestly.
ever.

Politicians lie. Lie their asses off. to their gain, not to the constituents. And I agree that all of this will not mean anything to him when he sits at the right hand of Savior Barak should the presidency go that direction.

they all lie.
and we'll suffer.

i say build the casino next door to his berkshire summer home. there's a lot of land out there.

*sigh*

They aren't all like that. I know quite a few that are very honest, upstanding people. Who will be up front with you on where they stand, even if you disagree with them. They do not pander. Rep. Jamie Eldridge is one such. There are some on the local level around here that I trust. And I thought Patrick was a similar type of person, from my personal experience with him. I met him many times. He came off as very intelligent, a listener, and someone who would at least tell it to you straight up.

I suspect there's something going on here that we can't see, some sort of pull that has changed how he operates. I can't tell you more than that, but this wasn't the man we elected.

Of course, we all expect people like DiMasi to be hackish, to obliterate the lines so they can accomplish their agenda. I know what most politicians are. However, there are some who have that integrity, who keep their integrity all their lives. It's naive to think so, either.

You can't group politicians together any more than you should stereotype ANY group of people. People are individuals, first and foremost, and should be evaluated that way. But you can keep generalizing if you think it makes your life simpler.

Will give you 100-1 odds...

By bobmetcalf | Tue, 03/04/2008 - 2:29pm

Deval "someone who would at least tell it to you
straight up" is gone two years into his governorship
(Hello, Welducci!) to an Obama post.

He's spent the last two weeks assuring us that that
is definetly, absolutely not going to happen...

Wanna take the bet?

Conditional statement

By SwirlyGrrl | Tue, 03/04/2008 - 3:06pm

100-1 odds, conditional on the odds of Obama being elected president.

Remember, kids ...

TOGETHER WE CAN!

I can't believe the bozos in Massachusetts actually voted for this moron. He offered nothing more than simple platitudes and now these same folks are finally coming to the realization that he's nothing more than an empty suit.

Well, you bought him, you own him...

Is Deval acting like a boob?
