Druggie toddler killer gets 18-20
Daniel Santana, 28, of Dorchester, pleaded guilty today to involuntary manslaughter for beating a toddler to death on June 26, 2006 in his Harbor Point apartment.
Santana also pleaded guilty to heroin and cocaine possession charges.
Superior Court Judge Margaret Hinkle agreed with the sentence proposed by the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.
Prosecutors say Santana beat Jaziel Ponce, 23 months, only three days after Jaziel's mother came to stay with him and while his mother was out running errands:
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that he died of blunt trauma to the abdomen and lacerations of the liver. Externally, the child also suffered fresh bruises in both ears, on the sternum, lower chest, abdomen, forearm, hand and back.
Santana later told relatives he "lost it." In court today, Santan asked for the family's forgiveness, according to the DA's office.
Assistant District Attorney David Deakin, chief of the Family Protection and Sexual Assault Unit, read an impact statement by the boy's father, Miguel Ponce:
When I received the bad news that my baby was killed my heart just dropped, and ever since that day, I haven't been able to pick it up. ... I will never be the man I used to be. I have no life without my son.

The toddler could have had a temper tantrum, but that doesn't mean that someone (especially someone who is NOT the boy's father) had a right to put his hands on or hurt that baby in any way. I hope YOU don't have kids, or aren't anywhere near them, because if you think the way you do and then have the nerve to put it out there on the WWW, you're even sicker than the guy who hurt and killed this little kid.

people should be more considerate about anyone passing away never mind how much pain and suffering my family has gone through with the loss of Jaziel grow up and stop posting stupid comments I hope u all never have any kids cuz kids are God's gifts and u don't deserve anything from God
