Haha, you jerk

Whoever stole the autographed Rat Pack photo from Franco's Pizzeria in Waltham thought he or she was getting something worth a lot of money. Krissy posts a photo of a note where the photo used to be that indicates otherwise.

to correct the spelling of the word "douchebag."

Can we kill that word?

By Brett | Sat, 05/31/2008 - 9:24pm

Seriously, I thought only high school and college-age jocks used that word.

You stay classy Waltham.

Though someone corrected the spelling of douchebag, but can anyone spot the other spelling errors? May as well just ignore the grammatical errors.

I presume this must be a family establishment, with the kids and grandmothers and all?

Definitely not a family

Definitely not a family establishment. It's a bar.

I was tempted to go in there with a marker and correct the entire note, but the people who work there are really nice so I didn't want to be a jerk.

That's why we have MCAS

By SwirlyGrrl | Sun, 06/01/2008 - 1:25pm

Non-wealthy Local School Committees Before MCAS: "You want education? Why do you expect it from us? Go to a private school if you want that."

Local School Committee After: "We got to get scores up in basics for everybody".

Once you get out of the wealthy towns, there are far too many adults who grew up going to local schools who cannot spell, punctuate, or form a grammatically correct sentence to save their lives. They went to the "before" schools.

Believe it or not, the errors in that note are minor compared to some of the school secretary and local PTO generated information that have come home in my kids' backpacks or been seen in internet message board messages. Real education was reserved for only the top students and for those who could afford private schools. Meanwhile, most fifth graders in the same schools can now do better because administrator jobs depend on it.

Well now the thieves know exactly where to find the original and cash in that 4 grand.

Wow, you folks are nasty.

1) Not everyone excels at writing. It's not that big of a deal. The guy probably owns the pizza place, it's not like he's writing novels.

2) What if the guy's first language isn't English? We don't know that it's his native language.

3) This guy could be a wonderful person, for all you know. Someone tried to steal from him, and all you guys are doing is ranking on his spelling and grammar. Weak.

Could have been screwed over, too

While writing ability is increasingly important, there are far too many adults around who were royally cheated because their school systems didn't think it worth the effort to teach them. Many were "predestined" to be vocational students or housewives so why bother? While it is fun to bag a troll when they make grammatical errors in the process of calling others "stupid", I don't think people should be faulted for lacking writing ability when it is so dependent on whether they were actually taught to write or expected to write in school, with additional issues of learning disabilities and English as a second language rolled in.

We had one guy running for school committee last time in Medford who was absolutely horrible at writing - but his whole platform was based on special education and education of all students of all abilities. He had serious learning disabilities that were largely ignored, and he was marched through the system year by year without learning what he might have had he had help.

Agreed!!

It's true.
