Even champions have to renew their licenses

Kendrick Perkins at the RMV:

... All I could think of is how miserable he looked. I mean the guy just won the NBA championship and were does he end up the following Monday? At the RMV renewing his license. What a total bummer. What ever happened to that "I'm going to Disneyworld" thing. I've never seen a commercial that showed a sports star saying "I'm going to the RMV to renew my license." ...

Interwebs?

You can renew your license/registration online these days...unless you've got outstanding tickets and citations.

Not always

If your picture is too old, you have to go in no matter what.

Maybe Not An In-State Renewal?

By Suldog | Mon, 06/23/2008 - 3:49pm

Maybe Perk had a Texas license (I think he's from there originally) and was getting his MA, now that he truly knows he'll be around a while?

Nothing about photos being "too old". They've been doing them digitally for a while, and licenses are only good for 5 years, so everyone's photo is digital now.

Theory and praxis

By Gareth | Mon, 06/23/2008 - 8:53pm

Well, you got your theory, and I got my praxis. That's how I know you skipped over an important word:

You may also be eligible to renew your license online.

In fact, not everybody is eligible for online renewal. Those who aren't, including yours truly, include those with pictures more than nine years old on their licenses. Those people do have to go to the RMV in person.

And welcome to Massachusetts.

Photos only good for 9 years

By anon-o-mus (not verified) | Mon, 06/23/2008 - 9:04pm

If it's been longer than 9 years and you try to renew online, you'll get all the way through the process and receive an email telling you to get yourself into a branch to get your new photo taken.

I did just that 2 weeks ago.

It does say on the site that will in fact be the case, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway.

I was so looking forward to not going to an RMV branch last year. Alas, it was not to be, due to that nine-year rule.

And by the way

By Gareth | Mon, 06/23/2008 - 9:05pm

That wasn't just me posting a second time. This really did happen to two different people here.

Make that three

Which is why I didn't have my permanent license when I had to take a trip.

He's got the look...

By kstier | Mon, 06/23/2008 - 4:17pm

I love Kendrick but he always has that "dang, I'm standing in line at the RMV" scowl on his face.

Perk's Face

By Kaz | Mon, 06/23/2008 - 4:24pm

Yeah, my friends and I call it the "Who Ripped One?" Scowl. He always looks like he smells something funky when he's on the court (except for the end of Game 6).

Renewal?

By Mr Punch (not verified) | Mon, 06/23/2008 - 4:33pm

Probably not a renewal -- his birthday is 11/10.

He is the latest Boston

By pierce | Mon, 06/23/2008 - 10:49pm

He is the latest Boston sports star to do voice ads over the MBTA loudspeaker, about taking the T to work at the Garden, and using it to see all the city has to offer, etc.

Maybe he needs to drive now that it's the offseason?

Buy a Six Pack perhaps?

By SwirlyGrrl | Tue, 06/24/2008 - 1:35pm

You know, without having some dimwitted packy clerk shun his out of state license and MA liquor ID and then tell him that his passport is a useless piece of junk and doesn't count as ID anywhere?
