Gas leak or gas work?
I live in that neighborhood. They've been gearing up to do utility & reconstruction work in that section of Somerville Avenue for a couple days now. They were definitely doing gas line work this morning - half of the road dug up, firefighters standing around looking bored just in case, NStar trucks, the whole nine yards.
I suspect that the "gas leak" was more like gas line work and lane changes/shifts that make it impossible for a bus to get through.
yup, scheduled work
Just scheduled for last spring.
Somerville Ave was being torn up this morning
On my walk to the subway this morning, the construction folks had one entire lane of Somerville Ave all torn up. That may explain why the 83 bus won't make any stops on that stretch (between Mass Ave and Elm Street).
I'm not ready to believe any alert on the MBTA website that can't even spell Somerville correctly. I'm willing to bet they mean gas company construction - not a leak.
