So what does the state spend $28 billion a year on?

The Globe today writes about how few people know what the state spends its money on. The Outraged Liberal wonders if that's because of how few stories the Globe writes about what the state spends its money on:

... Do a search of the Globe online and the stories about the state budget process are few and far between. The ones that do appear are formulaic. The governor proposes. The Legislature holds hearings and then crafts a House budget. When that budget is approved, it goes to the Senate, where they do their thing. Then to conference committee. Then a quick enactment vote followed 10 days later by a signing, replete with veto messages.

Nothing to kick that fire or traffic accident or in-depth view of lobstering off Metro front. ...

It went straight into the pockets of the biotech industry thanks to Deval Patrick, who seems to think we're made of money, and that the poor starving biotech industry needs giant wads of cash thrown at them.

What difference does it make?

Several times at my major, not for profit human services corp, we've gone to the AG's office on spending nastiness at my co (the largest in the state) and were rebuffed with the whole sorry, we're too busy auditing for the Big Dig line.

Just gave my notice (nearly ten years in finance) and am planning on moving out of state. My dream is to be out of "not for profit" (not a Mandate from G-d, but a Tax Status; get a clue!) and out of the whole damned MA financial clusterf*ck.

Believe me, I'm looking to drop a dime somewhere.
