If that's all you got, go with it. Though a wooden kitchen chair might prove more effective at keeping space between you and an assailant. Especially a drunk one. Assume a defensive position inside your home, with a clean line of sight to the door. Call 911. Tell them there's someone trying to break into your home, and you THINK he MIGHT be armed.
