Holding a baby while under the influence

An East Boston woman was arrested on drug and abuse charges today after she allegedly dropped her infant niece - who suffered no apparent injuries in the fall.

Caitlin Powers, 21, of East Boston, was to be arraigned this morning in Chelsea District Court, according to the Suffolk County DA's office. The infant's mother, Alicia Powers, 28, of Revere, is not being charged in the incident.

Innocent, etc.

Not to be a nit picker, although I guess I am being one, but I dont see in the second paragraph her being described as a Chelsea woman as she was in the first one. It looks like an East Boston person and a Revere person did something wrong and ended up in Chelsea Court.

Right you are

Fixed.

Town Twisted

It still doesn't quite make any sense though.

A Revere woman is being arrested for dropping her niece, but according to your blurb the mother is from Revere and the aunt is from East Boston.

Once more with feeling

This is why I need my own personal copy desk (so thanks, guys). I think I got it right this time.

Press Release or Clairvoyance

By stephencaldwell | Thu, 07/31/2008 - 12:26pm

I'm assuming that this was a press release from the DA's office and not a news story posted somewhere?

Yep, press release, sort of

By adamg | Thu, 07/31/2008 - 12:35pm

In addition to formal press releases, the press office sends out e-mail alerts to let reporters know about potentially interesting cases. This one was in one of the latter. If they do issue a press release, it'll wind up on this page.

In Adam's defense, the story

By Jake | Thu, 07/31/2008 - 12:36pm

In Adam's defense, the story out of Revere changed rapidly this morning until police reports became available at the courthouse.

The arraignment results:

1. Caitlin Powers (of E. Boston) charged with possession of a class A substance and Reckless Endangerment of Child. She was released on her own recognizance on the condition that she remain drug/alcohol-free, undergo substance abuse evaluation, stay away from children under 10, and comply with any directives issued by DSS.

2. Anthony Paolini (of E. Weymouth) charged with identity Fraud (three counts stemming from identification and other documents in other people's names), receiving stolen property, and being present where heroin is kept. He was held on $250 cash and had his bail on an unrelated open case revoked.

3. Jessica St. Amand (of Stoneham) charged with receiving stolen property, being present where heroin is kept, and identity fraud (also for ID/documents in other people's names). She was released on her own recognizance on the condition that she remain drug/alcohol-free, submit to drug/alcohol testing, and undergo substance abuse evaluation.

4. Alicia Powers was not charged.

You're too kind

I wish I could blame fast-changing details, but in this case, I simply screwed up - I had the right locations, just managed to jumble them all together (fortunately, the Web makes it easy to fix stuff).

I normally wouldnt have said
