Local battery company hopes to charge up on IPO

Scott Kirsner reports that A123 Systems, which makes really big batteries (of the sort GM might use in its Volt electric car before buying them all back and crushing them), has filed for an initial public stock offering (See the filing).

For those that may not know...
This is a cool local company. These guys provide battery packs for a number of power tools, and I guess they want to jump on the new opportunities that $4/gallon gas presents.
I know of them thru the radio controlled airplane market, an admittedly very small market. Their cells are very popular, especially because they are a lot safer than lithium polymer batteries. Their only downside is that they are a bit heavier, so they are more often used in larger (heavier) airplanes.
