Not a good morning for T commuters

The tweets are pouring in: Hour-long waits on commuter rail; piss-poor plowing around Ashmont station, inaccurate advisories. All leading to:
i hear the CIA is looking into a new torture technique - commuting on the MBTA

Brattle Street T entrance was dangerous last night
Coming back from the Brattle Theatre yesterday evening, I had to walk quite gingerly down the stairs into the Harvard Square busway. The steps were coated with slippery ice.
(But even worse were the steps leading down to the Brattle Theatre entrance itself. I nearly broke my left arm there yesterday.)
Also dangerous was walking down the steps from Boston City Hall Plaza to Congress Street and Faneuil Hall. I'll find some other way to get home this evening that doesn't involve climbing those steps.
Sounds treacherous Ron....
If you are surrounded by sidewalks, steps and plazas of ice, I'd say you might want to sharpen the golf shoes or get some ice-climbing gear for the season! ;- )

Not much has changed...
Wow! It sounds like things haven't improved since I endured two seperate lines of the Commuter Rail. In 2000, the Fitchburg Line had a history of being "frozen" and incredibly late, even on some mild days in the winter! Later, when using the Needham Line, the very same issues were at hand, causing aggravation. I thought the commute would be a breeze, moving from Leominster to Needham. Hardly!.............
Scary, but not too uncommon, I guess
Back in February of 2003, I was on the eastbound California Zeyphr as it sped through Iowa during a pretty nasty little snowstorm. More than once, I saw cars trying to stop at the grade crossings and sliding slowly towards the train. I think that they were all far enough away from the tracks, but still, it must have been pretty frightening.
Ewww...Speaking of MBTA delays:
Athough I allowed an hour and a half instead of the usual hour to get to my dentist appointment in Coolidge Corner this morning, that didn't stop me from being 20 minutes late to my appointment due to being held up for at least 20 minutes due to a disabled train that was stuck in the trainyard nearby and took awhile to be pushed out of the way. Uggh! What a pain. Fortunately, however, since I had my cellphone, I called and explained what was going on. While they weren't overjoyed, they understood.
D Line miserable this AM
It was packed and for some reason at every stop until I got off at Park street the entire train turned off, went totally dark and had to be restarted. Wow. Just wow.
That same sort of thing happened on the Red Line to Harvard
that afternoon, as I was on my way to Harvard Square to do a small errand. The train was all dark when it arrived at Park Street. Somehow, we managed to get through, but rather slowly.
How I wish that major weather like this were better handled by the people who run this city, and the MBTA system. It would make a huge difference, imho.
