Just because you're smart doesn't mean you have a lick of common sense

Paul Levy, CEO at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, wishes to address students at Harvard's medical and public-health schools who are riding their bikes to school now that the weather is nice: Put your damn helmet on and stop riding like a moron:

Today's quiz: What do we call a Harvard student who rides a bicycle in the wrong lane without a helmet?

Oooh boy, somebody rang the bell and they all came out of the woodwork!

There was one woman with the heavy and awkwardly-slung messenger bag throwing off her balance, and no helmet. I was waiting for traffic where I come out of a side street on Elm in Camberville/Somerbridge while she was too special to bother to even slow down or look, bursting out of the side street where I was waiting and signaling for a left (on my left, of course), right into the path of a car going about 20mph. It clearly never occurred to her that there might be a reason that another cyclist was waiting there, she also didn't seem to notice how that car came to an abrupt stop to avoid hitting her. For her next stupid cyclist trick, she cut across the other lane without looking, just missing a pedestrian in the crosswalk and presumably headed down a wrong way street to get over to Somerville Ave.

Meanwhile, I waited for traffic to wave me out, went down Elm, to Somerville Ave, to Park, to another street I can't spell, and then onto Beacon.

She got annoyed in that preciously bratty millenial way when she caught up with me again on Beacon in Somerville and I said "Oh, my fair DARWINIA, we meet again!".

All that stupid to make quick time and the dyed-locked dope never once looked at a map to find not only a legal way, but a faster one.

I happened to be riding my bike, too. That makes me resent losers like Darwinia all the more - their massholarity on two wheels riles up the jerks who then try to kill other cyclists with their heavy equipment and whips up the anti-bike sentiment.

It also makes it all the funnier - my matronly 42 year old rump on a commuter bike with (no joke here) 50 lbs of panniers full of work crap from my last trip and a backpack on my back with my computer, purse, and clothing massively outpaced her over a two mile stretch while obeying all the traffic laws, despite her chicken games in traffic and foolish speed fetish, all because I figured out a a quick, safe route through that area by using a map.

Its true...

I like this Paul Levy fellow. He is kind of insane and one day its going to kick him in the butt, but hey until that day good luck to him. I appreciate the truth of his words and actions.

Anyone else out there feel like he would be a good Governor?
