The age-old debate: Cannolis from Mike's or the Modern?

Jen can't decide, but says the cannolis at Mike's have one advantage - if you buy so many that you can't eat them all at once:

... From personal experience, I have found that the cannolis from Mike's Pastry keep longer. The shells seem to stay relatively crunchy for at least one whole day (overnight), whereas the Modern Pastry cannolis get soggy in less than 24 hours. This could be because the Modern shells are smaller, lighter, and more delicate than the heftier, cookie-like shells from Mike's. ...

Mikes cannolis are hard to just pick up and eat, I end up just using a knife and fork

I say go with Maria's!! The cream is sweeter and the shells are light and flaky. Way better than both Modern and Mikes...although she used to work for Modern =)

I know a lot of people who prefer Maria's cannoli over both Modern and Mike's (I'm a lifelong Modern fan myself, having tried all three many times), but most of them argue that the ricotta is superior because it's less sweet, not sweeter.

I did a double-blind taste test once. Mike's won

Mike's, no contest.

I think it will take a couple from each bakery, though, to be extra sure which one I really like.

No substitute for research, after all!

(FTR, I live within walking distance of Modern, so I usually get a fresh one and eat it while waiting for a bus or walking home).

Modern - one evening, a friend and I decided to taste-test both, and while they both have their merits, Modern came out ahead in the cannoli department.

Modern is the best. And if you plan on getting cannolis and eating them the day after, get the chocolate dipped shells. They keep the crunch.
