Why life is particularly sucking for people who take express buses to the outer 'burbs

Jemima Pereira warns you upfront that if you read her entire account of the new fare system for people who ride MBTA express buses to far-off suburbs in another galaxy (especially if said people already have an Inner Express pass), your head will explode, so let's just jump to her conclusion:
... I have already predicted that ridership will plummet under Charlie’s regime, but now I'd like to add a prediction that the homicide rate in Boston will rise this year.

I get my buss pass monthly in a program from my work and used to get the old combo pass to take the express bus from h2otown. However, because of the confusing system, I was given the wrong pass for January and now must take a bus into Cambridge and then the red line into Boston. I used to only stop getting the bus pass in the summer when I rode my bike to work. But considering the warming temperatures and the extra $$$$ I am going to have to pay next month for the proper inner express pass, I think I am going to bike all year and just keep a Charlie card with a little cash on it to use in case of weather being to bad to bike.
Happy Charlie Card Ending
I am happy to report due to so many people having similar issues with the getting the wrong card for the express bus, my employer was able to rectify the situation and get me the right card for January.
