Waste not, want not

Boston held one of its household hazardous-waste recycling days today, at the West Roxbury DPW garage.

We loaded up the trunk with eight old paint and stain cans and a large bag of GrubEx, which I bought in a fit of grub-induced madness several years ago (based on past experience, our lawn would have died even without the grubs; this year, in digging up the lawn yet again, I found maybe two grubs).

Police, DPW workers and employees of Clean Harbors did an excellent job of unloading trunks and keeping the line moving (although it was kind of funny to see so many Clean Harbors workers in aprons; it looked like they were getting ready for a barbecue instead of handling gallon after gallon of toxic chemicals):

It's kind of fitting that the city held this recycling event at the West Roxbury DPW garage, since the facility and the neighboring Millennium Park used to be a landfill.

So tired! In addition to chemicals, Boston residents could also drop off old tires and propane tanks.

Where around the city can people drop off the recyclables not collected curbside?

Sorry, we have to withhold that information.

In seriousness, though, why are you asking a bunch of random people instead of, say, calling the City of Boston, who has people hired to know such things?

Molly, you are certainly the most snide person on this site. You always have a sarcastic (and often times vitriolic) comment for every topic discussed on this board. I just noticed this while catching up on the site. I hope that is just your Internet persona and not how you actually are in "real" life.

Have you really caught up on this site?

Don views this site and others as his personal search engine. On just about every Boston forum I visit, he repeatedly asks questions that can be easily answered by calling the relevant party. Molly did point him to where he would need to call, and she also pointed out his helpless and often arbitrary behavior. This came across to me as rather helpful, and certainly not the most offensive way someone could have responded to him. Why does this bother you so much?

I'll second the "have you really caught up", because there are plenty of people here I can't possibly match for snideosity.

Also, on the front page alone, there are plenty of posts that don't have a single comment, much less one from me; so I'm going to have to call hyperbole on that statement.

And too

Mostly what eeka said about Don. He is forever asking the Internet for information in odd places...would you ask a bunch of strangers for recycling info, or would you call the people who have been hired to know such things? Which do you think will get you further?

In fact, and I don't even

By Molly | Mon, 07/02/2007 - 11:22am

In fact, and I don't even know why I'm bothering, I skimmed through this front page. I made exactly one comment, to independentminded, indicating that I've never been stung by a jellyfish and explaining that it's because I haven't spent a whole lot of time near the ocean.

Please show me an example of the vitriol you think you're seeing, other than here, because odds are, my words are being misread.

(ETA: all right, I was snarky about the Fox van being parked in an accessible space, but really, it's Fox.)

Well, shoot, if I'd known you were a one-shot troll, I wouldn't even have bothered posting.

Really, you come around with the sole purpose of insulting me and then don't even have the common courtesy to engage in a decent flame war? Fie, sir!
