Bob Lobel
Has Bob Lobel lost something off his fastball?
Dan Kennedy doesn't think Lobel has provided enough proof for his serious allegation against Manny Ramirez (that Ramirez took a dive in an at-bat against Mariano Rivera to protest a huge fine for knocking down the team traveling secretary).
Meanwhile, Dan Shaughnessy admits he reads blogs, in a column in which the CHB airs out his perpetual grievance against Ramirez without ever actually saying Lobel is right. Neat Shanky trick.
Jeff Louderbeck isn't buying Lobel's version, either:
... Like many members of the Boston sports media, Lobel has little credibility. Much like Dan Shaughnessy does with his written words, Lobel stirs the pot with his mouth, speaking before thinking. In fact, Lobel's words have already been dismissed by one of the few credible Boston media members, Gordon Edes of the Boston Globe. According to Edes' 3:46 p.m. post on the Extra Bases blog, Ramirez' fine was wildly overstated. ...
Which makes one wonder why Shaughnessy felt compelled to lead with Lobel's version.

Marathon Live
I'm watching the Marathon live. Is it just me, or does Bob Lobel also remind you of Willard Scott in "Best in Show"?
I mean, I love the guy, but he seems to be there for the celebrity factor, and he's a bit underprepared. As Biktimirova and Tuna battle it out:
Bob: "When's the last time a Russian woman won the Boston Marathon?"
Other commentator: "Last year..."
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Bob Lobel delivered the weather?
No, me neither. But apparently, Channel 38 thinks somebody has, because Lobel and weatherdude Ken Barlow are swapping jobs for the next couple of nights on the 9:30 p.m. news, Jesse Noyes reports.

Bob Lobel: Babbler extraordinaire
David Scott chronicles "the rapidly-aging and fastly-fading" Bob Lobel's performance on Sunday night's "Sports Final" - was he really giggling over the way that guy collapsed at the finish line of the Chicago Marathon?
Bob Lobel, puffball pitcher
David Scott wonders whether Ted Johnson still has a contractual deal with Channel 4, based on the softball questions gently lobbed him by Bob Lobel:
... Lobel ended the piece from the studio with a meandering, babbling public service announcement about the “moral of the story†and urging viewers to make a call if they feel threatened.
Do you think that includes those of us who are threatened by sugar-coated interviews done solely for the purpose of trying to save face for the host's friend, who's an ex-athlete, and his wife, family and future earnings/marketability?
What number do we call to complain about that, Bob? ...
Speaking of annoying media people
Sure, it's no Matt Amorello crack, but one of our channel-4-watching correspondents couldn't believe her ears last night while watching Bob Lobel do the sports:
He ended his story on last night's game saying "Lester The Molester is now 5-0 with tonight's win." I actually rewound the DVR to ensure I heard it correctly.
