Boston Public Schools to host Back-to-School Jamboree

Free event at City Hall Plaza will help students and families get ready for the new school year

BOSTON – Mayor Thomas M. Menino, the Boston School Committee and Superintendent Carol R. Johnson announced that the Boston Public Schools (BPS) will host the first-ever Back-to-School Jamboree on Saturday, August 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on City Hall Plaza.

Seems Tom Menino wants to build a new Boston Arts Academy on what is now a city parking lot at Tremont and Washington streets.

The Sox connection? The city would pay for part of the $100-million project (take that, Newton) by selling the current high school, valued at $13.2 million, to the Red Sox, Banker and Tradesman reports.

How not to handle communications with parents

Unspecified threats made against Roslindale students in general, so Boston Police stepped up surveillance of all public schools in the neighborhood on June 16. Officials at some schools told parents, officials at other schools didn't, you can imagine how parents of some elementary-school kids were a bit disturbed to find cops at the schools when they brought the kids to school in the morning..

Acid test in West Roxbury

Two students at the West Roxbury Educational Complex were taken to Faulkner Hospital after spilling some sulfuric acid on themselves this morning.

Globe: School not evacuated.
Channel 7: School evacuated.

Both called it West Roxbury High School, which it hasn't been for a couple years now.
