A shooting, a window smashing, a tire-iron bashing

Boston Police report on three incidents last night:

A man was found shot around 8:30 p.m. at 30 Algonquin St. in Dorchester. He was taken to Boston Medical Center with possibly life-threatening injuries.

Clayton Doyle, 48, of East Boston, allegedly upset that the McDonald's at 220 Border St. in East Boston had closed for the night, used a construction barrier to smash one of the eatery's windows, police say.

Two Roxbury teens interrupted by a car owner while they were burglarizing his car around 2:30 this morning hit the guy in the chest with a tire iron, drove away (the guy at least got to smash their rear window) then came back and threatened to shoot him - just as police arrived on the scene at Gay Head and Round Hill streets in Jamaica Plain. William D. Mejia, 18, of Roxbury and an unnamed juvenile, 15, charged with a variety of things.

Innocent, etc.

The mean streets of Jamaica Plain

Well, one mean street, at any rate. Jeff Cutler describes what he went through to buy a used iPhone from some dude living near English High School:

... Just a half block away from where the kid with the bat assaulted (that's what threatening with a weapon is called I believe) the girl, there was ANOTHER gang jostling about and being approached by two uniformed cops. I kept going. Real nice neighborhood.

Once I got past that group I thought I was home free until a group of younger kids, five youths between 11 and 14 years old, chased my scooter for about 10 feet before giving up (I'm very glad I got the bigger engine as it accelerates quickly).

When I arrived at the house, the iPhone seller advised me to put the scooter out of sight and near the door to the house. ...

The whistling buses of Forest Hills

A few years ago, the MBTA replaced all the stinky diesel buses running out of the Forest Hill yard with clean CNG buses. Yay! Only now a lot of them have developed this interesting characteristic: They whistle as they go. Really loudly. You can often tell when a bus is a few blocks away because you hear something that sounds like a tea kettle or an elephant, or maybe an elephant holding a tea kettle.

Grave situation at Forest Hills Cemetery

Mike Ball reports somebody is stealing sculptures and urns from Forest Hills Cemtery:

... You'd suppose trying to fence two very distinctive and well-known public sculptures will end up tripping up the thieves. I hope so and I bet the cemetery (and likely its insurance company) are working that angle too ...

The Globe reports officials fear the sculptures will simply be sold for scrap.
