Fires in the holes shut Harvard Square
The Crimson reports on flaming manholes early this morning:
A fire started underground on the corner of Mass Ave and Dunster Street was visible through several manholes in the Square this morning. Harvard's Holyoke Center, Cambridge Savings Bank, Au Bon Pain, and other nearby institutions were evacuated, and automobile access to the Square had been severely restricted by the Cambridge Fire Department. ...

Channel 5 reports. NECN has video on "the underground mechanical failure" as well (great fire-AND-ice NECN screen capture).

High Times Magazine Publisher and Founder of NORML Go To Trial For Boston Pot Bust
"High Times" Magazine Publisher Rick Cusick and
Keith Stroup Founder of the National
Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws (NORML) were arrested
for allegedly sharing a marijuana
cigarette on Boston Common in September 2007.
The two have refused the offer to dismiss the case with an apology.
The two and their defense team plan to challenge
the constitutionality of marijuana prohibition.
Their next court date is May 15th, 10AM, 24 New Chardon St., Boston. Press conference to follow.

Train accident shuts down Providence line
Sitting on the 5:40 at South Station, they just announced that there was a collision at Canton Junction between a commuter rail train and a freight train. They're holding us at South Station until further notice.
Train 917 hit when a CSX boxcar rolled off sidetrack onto main line.

An Acela train hit three workers this afternoon just south of Providence, according to ProJo.com. One worker died.
Of secondary importance, runs on the Providence line are ending at South Attleboro, with buses to Providence.
