Four shot at Hyde Park convenience store; one shot in Uphams Corner

For those keeping track: So far Boston is up to seven shootings this holiday weekend, two of them fatal (a third man was murdered with a bag containing something hard).

Boston Police report four people were shot at the Tedeschi's (formerly the Store 24) at 1187 Hyde Park Ave. around 2 a.m. today.

Police say the four were approached by three or four young men, who opened fire. The four got into their car and fled to 142 West St., where they called police:

Victim #1 had been shot through the left hand, victim #2 had been shot on the left side of the stomach, victim #3 had been shot on the left thigh, and victim #4 had been shot on the inner left thigh.

All were taken to local hospitals; all expected to survive.

Around 4:19 this morning, police report, a man was shot at repeatedly - and hit at least twice - in his car at 15 Elder St. in Uphams Corner. Despite his injuries, he was able to drive himself to Boston Medical Center, police say.

Finally, police say they managed to arrest a bike-riding gunman near Whitfield Street and Wheatland Avenue around 11:30 last night before he managed to shoot anybody. Gregory Davis, 18, of Dorchester, was arrested on charges related to possession of a loaded semi-automatic firearm.

Unfortunately, Boston Police consider it an illegal tourist destination. They report they placed Aihua Harris, who owns two of the three units there, under arrest for disturbing the peace yesterday. Police say that, in response to inquiries from officers about whether she has the proper permits from the city, she not only ordered them off her property but began yelling loudly enough to attract the attention of neighbors, and if there's one thing Boston Police can't stand, it's attracting the attention of neighbors.

Liquarry Jefferson's father charged in connection with JP, Hyde Park holdups

The father of Liquarry Jefferson, the little boy accidentally shot to death last year, was one of two men arrested yesterday for a pair of brazen convenience-store holdups last month, Boston Police report.

Liquarry's father, 28, and also named Liquarry, and Nazareth Perkins, 37, were both captured on in-store video, according to Boston Police, who say they are looking for at least two more men. In both incidents, the robbers used silver-colored guns to order employees to the floor and make off with money and lottery tickets. Jefferson was charged with drug possession while Perkins was charged with armed robbery (masked) and assault by means of a dangerous weapon (hand gun).

The elder Jefferson has a lengthy record of violence. Last year, the Globe reported his record includes beating his son's mother (with a barbell and belt) when she was two months pregnant with him (at the time, she was herself facing charges of stabbing Jefferson in the stomach). He's been convicted of manslaughter for helping another man stab a guy to death in 1997 and of a string of armed robberies.

Little Liquarry Jefferson's mother and stepbrother face charges of involuntary manslaughter and lying to investigators in connection with his death. Prosecutors say the stepbrother left a loaded gun lying around.

Two shot in Lower Mills; one dies

Boston Police report a double shooting at 115 River St. early this morning left one person dead.

Police say they were called to Carney Hospital around 2:40 a.m. when two people with gunshot wounds showed up there:

One victim is 27 year old black male suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the arm. The second victim is a 28 year old black female who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. She has succumbed to her injury and was pronounced.

Police say the man drove himself and the woman to the hospital.

Adam Pieniazek is enjoying a nice bike ride on Columbia Road in Dorchester when some fat putz in a rustbucket begins slamming his horn and demanding Pieniazek pull over to let him through. Pieniazek did pull to the side, but didn't stop, which only further enraged the guy. He reports that the guy, who appeared to be Puerto Rican or Dominican, finally exhausted his supply of expletives and yelled:

Do you know where you are white boy?

Pieniazek, a Dot rat, finally lost him at a light - but not until he took down his license-plate number. He wonders: Should he use the handy motorist-complaint form he downloaded?

Three shot in Dorchester; one dead

Man, 29, fatally shot around 2:20 a.m at 113 Ames St. at Franklin Field. Pronounced dead at Carney Hospital, where somebody had driven him. He's Dorchester's 15th murder victim of the year (Dorchester murder map).

Double shooting on Calder Street, around 1:30 a.m..

Now if he'd been in the tomato section, it'd be more understandable

That’s why Project Bread is providing $5,500 in incentive grants to the Summer Food Service Program in Dorchester in an effort to help families cope with the skyrocketing cost of food and gas.

Last night, I spoke to some graduate journalism students at Northeastern about, well, things such as Universal Hub. I told them there's a big opportunity for folks like them in non-traditional media because mainstream media, at least in Boston, just misses so much.

I asked them if they'd heard of Rodrick Taylor. Nobody raised their hands. Then I asked them if they'd heard of Neil Entwistle. Almost all of them raised their hands.
