Brighton
Imagine if all those lost-pet posters started dialing you up at home
Michael Pahre reports getting a robo-call from some company asking if he knew the whereabouts of some lost cat in his neighborhood:
... How much does this service cost? A lot! Prices range from $65 for 250 robo-calls (suitable for a low-density rural location) to $425 for 5000 robo-calls in a dense, urban environment.
Note that the organization's website claims that they are exempt from the National Do Not Call Registry, which would explain why their call went through to my house despite having registered my phone number with the list.

Another fine mess on the B Line
One of the last trains on the B Line overnight, running through the Commonwealth Avenue and Chestnut Hill Avenue intersection around 1:30 AM, hopped the tracks. This normally wouldn't be a big deal, as it happens pretty regularly with the new Breda trains. Except, this time it hopped the track right into a power pole. The shorted power lines lit the train car on fire. About thirty people on board were able to get off safely but it's taken all morning and then some for officials to untangle the mess and realign the wheels to put the train back on the tracks to move it out of the way. As of 6 AM, the train is still in the middle of the intersection and the B Line is being bussed from BC to Babcock Street.
Of course, this all began over 4 hours ago, but it is just now "breaking news" on all of the local news agencies and television stations without a single article to link even at this hour.

Midnight in Brighton
Interesting photo that belies all your preconceptions of what somebody might be taking a photo of at midnight in Brighton.

Apartment-cramming landlords, one student sue Boston
Over the new five-students-and-you're-out-law:
In their suit, the landlords admit to renting out homes or units to anywhere from five to eight students at a time. But they point out that the student renters have more square feet of living space than is required under state health codes.
Note: The Herald doesn't say where that one student goes to school, but for what it's worth, Facebook says she's an Eagle.

An apology from the woman on the trolley who smells like chicken
Mags is a chef who takes the B line home from work:
... Waiting for the T to arrive, I silently pray that by some miracle it won't be crowded and that I'll get to sit down instead of having to smoosh up against pretty people dressed for a night on the town. Alas, I never get my wish. Not only am I dead tired and my feet hurt, but I feel bad for you, my fellow riders, because I am aware of the odor that is seeping out of my clothes and into the tiny, hot space that we are sharing.
So please, if you see a girl in checkered pants on your way home one night, please know that she's sorry for stinkin' up the place and that when she's not at work, she's one of the best smelling people in the city. :) ...
