Mattapan Line finally gets air conditioning - today

This just in from the T: The first ever air-conditioned Mattapan trolley rolls out of Ashmont station at 2 p.m. today. The other nine trolleys on the cutest transit line in all of Massachusetts will be retro-fitted with A/C by the end of the summer.

A model trolley

If somebody ever made a model-train layout of the Mattapan Line, one of the stops would look just like this.

To the Milton cop with the buzz cut driving on Fairmount Avenue in Hyde Park around 1:20 p.m.

You might try saving up that aggression for criminals in your own town instead of spewing it all in one loud blaring horn attack on some poor woman who just wasn't parking fast enough for your taste.

Down by the river

Bucolic river scene

You can almost picture the cows just on the other side of that hill. But this isn't Vermont - it's Milton, down at the Neponset River, across from Pope John Paul II Park in Dorchester. About 300 feet to the left of the houses are three radio towers - and next to those sit a couple of office buildings (in Quincy). But that's one of the cool things about the park: Sure, you can look one way and see the Southeast Expressway, and turn around and see the Red Line, but then you turn again and see views like this.

Congressman Robinson, I presume?

Devone ponders:

It will be interesting to see how the Massachusetts press will spin a Jack Robinson victory if he defeats unpopular incumbent Stephen Lynch on November 7. ...

Ed. Ninth District Note: I don't particularly like Lynch - I have never voted for him - but, honestly, the chances of Robinson beating him next month are about equal to my odds of being elected Prince of Wales.

Pooped in Milton

Tim gets close enough to the Subaru Outback in front of him in Milton to notice that the white plastic bag attached to its rear wiper is filled with doggie doo from the Weimariner in the back seat.

Catch a ride on the Mattapan High-Speed Line now

Charles Swift reminds us that the Mattapan trolley line shuts down June 24, allegedly for a year's worth of repairs (I write "allegedly" because, well, the T has a history of making "temporary" trolley-line shutdowns permanent). So? Here's your chance to ride renovated 1940's trolleys on a pleasant 10-minute ride along the Neponset from Ashmont through Milton - think of it as a bit of living history.
