Train accident shuts down Providence line

Sitting on the 5:40 at South Station, they just announced that there was a collision at Canton Junction between a commuter rail train and a freight train. They're holding us at South Station until further notice.

Train 917 hit when a CSX boxcar rolled off sidetrack onto main line.

Another local movie theatre closes

Some time in the past few weeks, the Stoughton Cinema Pub quietly closed its doors. It was one of the Boston area's few remaining single-screen movie theatres, as well as one of the few remaining independent cinemas. Stoughton now joins the growing list of Boston-area suburbs that no longer have any movie theatres at all.

The only media coverage I've found is this Snyder's Stoughton column in the online Stoughton Journal. from October 4:

Danes out of Stoughton!

As Jay Fitzgerald puts it: You can't make this stuff up.

The Globe reports that the Stoughton No Place for Hate Committee is upset that the town administrator briefly flew a Danish flag outside Town Hall in support of Denmark. The group

plans to discuss the episode at its meeting tonight because of fears that residents might be hurt or insulted.

Hmm. As we know, the Israeli flag offends many Moslems. Perhaps the Stoughton No Place for Hate Committee should be asking all the temples in town to stop flying it. What? That's absurd? Oh, right.
