Would someone please QC Sec. Galvin's website?

Seriously - if the devil's in the details on some of these questions (in terms of practical implementations, presuming you're not already fundamentally decided) - could someone please ensure that online information about the ballot is a little more complete and correct?

  • The individual ballot question pages on the Sec. State website are fine, but: where's the link to the detailed legislation? People might want to know the details.
  • On the other hand, clicking the Back to: Proposed Ballot Questions link from any of these pages results in a 404 error. Oops. I hope they count ballots better than build websites. Normally, they're pretty good.

Tip: here's the actual overview of the 3 questions.

I hope you emailed your complaint to [email protected] as well as posting it here. (Just to be sure, I emailed them a link to this post.)

If you go to "Information for Voters Online Book", the three question pages each have a "See Full Text of Question" link on them. All of those links actually go to different parts of this page.

Or you can download the PDF version of the voter guide, which is the same booklet that you should have received in the US mail. It also has the full text of each question.

Thanks for the immediate and specific links; I knew they were in there somewhere, it was just annoying navigating back and forth. Guess I was having a snarky morning.

Yes, I know, most of us can read the little red book we all get mailed at home, I just thought it was odd the website wasn't organized better, since it does seem to be nicely laid out otherwise.

(Heh, heh, heh: "little red book".)

Been there... emailed them to harass before I found the link to the PDF at a higher level of their web tree. It's not complete, there could be better referencing.

But let's be honest here... if there's one valuable change to SoS's website, it would be to have his stupid head removed from the top banner of every page on the site!

It's too bad voters don't care about SoS in this state. John Bonifaz would have been a much more interesting official. We'd probably be voting on ballots with Range Voting http://www.rangevoting.org/

I voted for Bonifaz, but Galvin is doing a boring but fairly competent job. I have no major complaints. Look at other states (Florida, Ohio, etc.) to see how much worse things can be.

Your range-voting link doesn't work. I'd love to see instant-runoff voting and election-day registration, but those have to be enacted by the state legislature, not decreed by the secretary of state.

Sorry for the bum link. I had to run to a meeting and wanted to get the post out, and my browser was being slow. Here it is...

http://rangevoting.org/

(It's so high tech, it's not on the WWW.)

As a former advocate for state-wide IRV, I am now pimping range voting, as it seems to be the 'holy grail' of voting accuracy and freedom. Check out the arguments against IRV in that site. Although I still consider IRV an improvement from our current Plurality voting, Range seems to be a more viable solution.

And while I do agree that Galvin is not doing a bad job, I think he could be doing more to help voters and make the voting system more fair. Although to your point the legislature would need to actually pass the law, the SoS is the primary official for advocacy in these matters. Or, at least, they should be. :)

No on #1 - Let's get real, the tax burden is not that high here and we can't run the government on fees, fines and property taxes.

Yes on #2 - No logic in pot being so illegal and booze being legal. Booze causes a lot more violence. Also no need for kids to rack up records over possession.

No on #3 - Those puppies were born to run, and it's a lot of fun going out to Wonderland and watch them chase "Swifty" like the dumb dogs they are. Plus, why shouldn't greyhounds have to work like the rest of us?

Looks like Secretary Galvin's office has fixed these things.
