Beer truck driver learns why the state bans trucks on Mem. Drive; his beer, at least, is OK
By adamg on Tue, 11/02/2010 - 10:14am
Terri O'Rourke reports a beer truck had its back sheared off, apparently by an alcohol-mad tree, on Memorial Drive by JFK Street this morning.
[I]t's a beer lovers paradise ... They're unloading all of it from back of the truck onto the sidewalk, on Memorial Drive.
The road was closed in both directions to let workers haul away the beer. Chris Devers tweets he saw cases of Heineken as he drove by.

Tree limb fell on truck
from Boston.com: "According to police and the state Department of Conservation and Recreation, the truck was traveling westbound around 7:45 a.m. when a limb from a sycamore tree fell onto the vehicle. Some of the truck's load -- which police said was beer -- spilled onto the roadway."

Wow, they actually fell for that?
I should try that next time. Gee, officer, I was walking along when the guy's face just smacked right into my fist!
Sidenote: shouldn't Cambridge be at Deciduous-Con Level 2?

Is the tree ok? Those big sycamores make that area one of my favorite parts of Cambridge.

This afternoon the SP is saying a limb fell off a tree and hit the truck juuuust right; that seems to imply the tree is mostly okay, more so than if a truck had really hit it.
Trucks on Mem. Drive
Earlier this summer, a co-worker and I were driving onto Memorial Drive coming from Fresh Pond Parkway and ahead of us was a fully loaded auto-transporter truck (eight cars, four on top and four on the bottom) that had made its way onto Memorial Drive headed towards JFK Street. The truck was slowing traffic behind it and brushing quite a few of the tree branches above and alongside it as it made its way on Memorial. When we were able to pass it (we were at JFK Street), I wanted to shout out to the driver that he didn't belong here given the tight turns and low clearances that were ahead of him, but the damage was already done and we didn't stick around to see how he'd get himself out of this situation. Too bad I didn't have a camera to record this scene.
