Crisis in the schools: Rubber bands
By adamg on Wed, 05/19/2010 - 7:03pm
MySouthborough.com reports a school in Southborough has banned Silly Bandz, those shaped rubber bands that stores can't stock fast enough:
... "The bracelets are distracting, they are being traded, and children are having conflicts because of them," [the principal] wrote in the letter. ...

But wait...
...have the colors become a hidden code of what kinds of sex acts the kids are willing to perform on each other yet?
Because that's when you know it's gotten serious...or not.

My third grade class is apparently overrun with slap bracelets! And did you hear? The cheap knock-offs fray around the edges and expose innocent children to metal! They are being traded and fought over on the playgrounds! The madness will never end!

We've gotta do something now about all those boys flipping baseball cards at lunch. That's all they ever do!
That was the first thing I
That was the first thing I thought of when I saw this, too! "Oh no, our kids may die from cut wrists!"
Remeber Alf?
He's back, in Pog form!
heaven forbid they teach how to resolve confict
"The bracelets are distracting, they are being traded, and children are having conflicts because of them," [the principal] wrote in the letter.
Gee. How about doing your job and teaching?
Oh, wait. Sorry. I forgot that the public school system is one where children are allowed to essentially be little mafioso and bully/steal from others. Right. Carry on.
Shuddup
They can't teach them if they're distracted by other pointless crap.
They can't teach them if they're busy fighting over who traded what with whom.
Seriously, Brett, you're more troll than usual. Your mom hold your allowance so you wouldn't buy more bandz?
conflict resolution is a life skill
...and far more important than memorizing one's multiplication tables.
So, instead of banning the object that's causing the problems and will be supplemented in weeks by something different (or things you can't ban, like friendships and relationships)...fix the problem by teaching conflict resolution and related skills?
See, if someone had taught this stuff to me in school, I wouldn't feel the need to point out you're a #$@!wad.
But alas, school administrators have a proven track record at simply running around being Small Pond gestapo agents- they're not interested in teaching so much as controlling un-consenting individuals.
