It's amazing what lives at the bottom of the ocean

Good Morning Gloucester posts photos of a rare golden sea robin, which is not something you'd ever want to have in your dreams.

And it is even a little bit more rare now.

The fish was released.

Sea robins are pretty resilient, and can live on the surface for a few minutes. I used to catch them (the more common brown version) all the time when fishing for flounder.

Looks like the head of the Creature from the Black Lagoon

I've had the not-so-rare brown variety of sea robin at Peach Farm in Chinatown. You look at the live tank and say, "Whoa, one of these things is not like the others." Then they fish it out with a net, bring it over to your table in a bucket to verify that this is indeed the fish you wanted, and five minutes later, it's on your table in ginger/scallion sauce. Freaky looking, but rather tasty.
