We have a lot of innocent children in Lynn that wear their pants somewhere around their knees.
Actually, this could be a positive side effect of the dress code... I mean adult entertainment ordinance.

Corey hit a home run with this post. It's much easier for a city politician to solve a manufactured problem "for the sake of the children" than it is to take on real, un-sexy issues such as budgets and being able to afford to provide an education "for the sake of the children."
The president of the Lynn Restaurant Association was merely inquiring about rules pertaining to strip clubs, probably because some of his membership asked, not because he wanted to personally open a strip club. The Item ran with the story, which they found out about somehow from someone in City Hall, painting our City Council President as the big hero taking a stance against strip clubs. (But as future election fodder for Councilor Phelan, it may have backfired.)
There are currently no strip clubs in Lynn, and no one has filed for anything to open one - not even a small initial step. It's simply a non-issue. The LRA president has even adamantly stated he has no interest in opening a strip club - the poor guy has been raked over the coals for simply asking a question.
The result, is a constitutionally questionable ordinance, complete with misspellings, that's based on very selective case history.
I haven't read it word-for-word yet, but if Corey is right, I expect to be embarrassed. As a fan of free expression, I expect to be offended. As a lover of the arts, I expect to be worried. As a taxpayer in the city of Lynn, I expect to pay more due to future legal challenges that the city will no doubt lose.
They're inventing new wars while the real battles are taking place in our schools and on our streets.

I suppose I'm the only one around here who thinks a good tittie bar would be my first reason to visit Lynn?
No you aren't the only one NotWhitey.....

Count me in. Although I never knew Lynn even had them so I can only imagine how bad they are. (And by "bad" I mean ugly women)

Pete, this is the first time I've seen you respond to anything but policing issues...Ha!
Can someone please explain how/why Lynn currently lacks strip clubs? It's called the City of Sin for what again? Even Revere has a strip club.
Nah I do it all the time.

Check my history.
But I was also wondering how Lynn doesn't have a strip club but Danvers does (or is it Sagus?)

Neither Saugus nor Lynn have gentleman's clubs. Revere's got the Squire and up on Route 1 ya got ya Cabaret in Peabody and (is it still closed?) Golden Banana. Many moons ago you could have added the Green Apple (rte 1 Peabody) as well for the "ladies," but that's been gone for quite some time.
I always thought it was kind of a scam: Saugus gets the rep for strip joints while Peabody gets the revenue. On the flipside, Saugus does have some lovely motels to meet up with hookers and/or OD in and of course the recently added Hooters. All that AND the Ironworks! Bring the kids!!
I get all those towns confused up there.

I do like that Hooters though.

Hooters, where the waitresses might even expect you to oogle their tits and ass (perhaps in return for a big tip wink wink) and no one judges you for being the lech that you are ... ... as long as the wife doesn't find out.

Perhaps Lynn should try to deal with overwhelming amount of druggies in their city first...

That is precisely the point!

If I were a Lynn resident, I, too might want somewhat of a restriction on people going around showing their butt-cracks for at least two reasons:
A) Don't these young kids under 18 realize that when they go around like that, they're prone to being exploited by unscrupulous people with bad intentions walking around, while, which aren't the majority, there are a lot of, nonetheless.
B) It's all too hard to ignore something so disgusting-looking without completely averting one's eyes, which one can get sick and tired of doing after awhile.
All this coming from one of the biggest advocates of free speech that ever walked planet Earth, and yet realizes that a line can and has to be drawn somewhere.

Disgusting? In Blockbuster, there was this cute early 20s woman walking around with very low-slung jeans, and apparently very low-slung panties, as well.
If you're gonna outlaw the cheek peek, there should be an exception for well-scrubbed hotties.
Excuse me, Miss, but I'm going to have to ask you to pull up your trousers, or ask you to a movie.

Just because one fancies oneself a free speed advocate doesn't make it so. Especially when there's evidence to the contrary.
I'm saying that

when it reaches the point where it's really intimidating, or super-offensive, then it's not free speech any longer, which is what I meant when I said that a line has to be drawn somewhere.

The mouth's on the other end.
Being required to put some pants over your crack in public only stifles your free speech if you talk out your ass.

Based on this, I might reconsider my position on this topic.
This could help the noise level in City Hall considerably.

Anyway, Pete Nice, read the full post on DowntownLynn or even my full comment above and you'll know Lynn doesn't have any strip clubs and that no one actually wants to open one.
This is about the city grandstanding and making a big deal out of a non-issue, perhaps at the expense of actual issues.
