No, Boston was not just under attack

Those were "mini-fireworks" over the harbor, paid for by Liberty Mutual, and audible as far away as Newton, Norwood and Milton.
Hat tip to Jenn Martinelli for answering the question that lit up the local Twit-o-sphere like a switchboard back in the days when you could light up a switchboard.

Boom! Boom!
Heard those just now. Several neighbors were outside saying things like "it sounds like fireworks, but where are they?"
And imagine
What it would have sounded like if they'd gotten an even bigger tax break!
Thank you and good night! I'll be here all week!
Fireworks tonight 04/26/10 over boston harbor
I was driving by on commercial St. and pulled-over and got out of my car to watch. I cab driver, who was standing outside of his cab to watch the fireworks speculated that maybe the fireworks were to commemorate a rich wharf rat's kid's birthday or something. I thought that seemed believeable anyway.
You and me both
My first inclination was to Google "Ernie Boch Jr's birthday," because I seem to recall he once celebrated his by having a fireworks show over the harbor. Then I checked Twitter :-).
Everything you're looking for?
Naw - I seem to think Mr. ErnieBochJr would have fireworks that spelled out his name, accompanied by that idiotic masturbatory theme song of his played in an endless loop...;-)
props
i enjoy a good usage of the word "masturbatory"
heard 'em here in JP. just assumed it was some kids doing it as happens time to time out here.
hey a$$ hol3. just because
hey a$$ hol3. just because somebody lives on a yacht doesnt make them snobby people. i would like to inform you that i myself live on a boat (classified as a sports yacht, but who cares). it is very rude to stereotype people just because of where they live, or what they live in...think before you speak next time please.
A Bulls*** Night In Suck City
Read it. You'll never think of people who live on boats moored near Boston as snobs or sophisticates again.
Maybe they were your hungry
Maybe they were your hungry Latino neighbors again, Eeka.
That's a relief! I heard them
That's a relief! I heard them in cambridge
Heard these near 128!
Heard these in the distance from Waltham!
So that explains that
So that explains that continuous rumble that sounded like thunder over here in Kenmore Square.
Oh?
So they weren't commemorating the season finale of RuPaul's Drag Race?
Recession? What recession?
Glad to see corporations indulging in their God-given right to excess and bravado again. Didn't feel like 'merica for a while. Goldman who?
we were wondering what that noise was
We could hear it but not see it in Allston/Brighton and were wondering what was going on. We decided it was a fireworks show that was scheduled for a seemingly random date. I guess we were right!
Also, I'm glad I didn't have a kid I was trying to put to bed for the (school) night...
Though, I'll admit it was a nice gesture, and if I could have seen them, I would have decided it was really cool and lovely and not at all creepy.
Being indoors, I didn't hear them, but ....
... if I had, my reaction would have been "all this just for winning the first round?"
I90/I95 junction
I heard them too, on the far western edge of Newton near the pike/128 junction. I remarked to my wife that it sounded like a thunderstorm was coming through.
