Now you have to worry about getting robbed at the drive-up ATM

Dedham Police report a motorist who'd just made a withdrawal at a Dedham Savings Bank ATM on Elm Street was held up at knifepoint Saturday night - by some guy who then fled in a waiting mini-van:
As victim took money from the machine, an unknown suspect approached from the back to the driver side window. Suspect showed a knife and told the driver to give him the money and drive away. Suspect is descrbed as a white male approx. 5'10"-5'11" wearing a black wool stocking hat with yellow spots on the front. The victim did not believe the suspect had facial hair but he did have a black scarf which was covering most of his mouth.

Slide the gearshift into
Slide the gearshift into reverse, open your door, and hit the gas. Then call 911.
Oh yeah!
I saw that movie too.
You know what?
I was going to post that...but was expecting to see people deride me or even defend the robber. I can't think of many things more satisfying than crushing an armed robber to death.
Yeah...
Yeah Mr Logic... Do that and I can guarantee you that you could potentially find yourself searching for new auto insurance! I know! I had to escape a dangerous scene and ended up running a red light in the process. Guess what happens? A tropper pulls me over - doesn't buy my obviously true claim, and then issues me a ticket. Weeks later, my premium skyrockets and I find myself digging deep into the online world of strange and unusual car insurance sites to find better rates. Nobody wants me now... :-(
In my day
we didn't have drive-up ATMs. If someone wanted to rob you in the drive-in lane of the bank, they had to put their stick-up note in a pneumatic cylinder.
What are you talking about!
Have you seen the FEES at the banks these days? We've already been getting robbed!
*rimshot*
My branch in N.Quincy has been robbed 4 times in recent months
I'm very leery using the ATM inside or in the drive thru.
Yes, i have it in gear and will drive away.
Over someone if necessary.
Driver Side Window?
How far away was the victim's car from the machine? When I pull up to one of those things, there usually isn't enough room for somebody to come up to my driver side window. In order to complete the transaction, don't you have to be close enough to the machine to reach the buttons or the touchscreen? Maybe that ATM is configured differently from the ones I frequent, but I can't imagine there being enough room between the car and the machine for somebody to saunter up and threaten me.
