Unlike the Scranton PA crash that inspired
"Bananas', there were no fatalities, no major injuries, not even a lot of damage here. Although this accident inconvenienced many people, it was just a truck tipping over. Hardly fodder for a folk song.
And, with respect to the memory of Mr. Chapin (a talented artist whose music I still enjoy to this day), I still find it ironic that the man who wrote and performed "30,000 Pounds Of Bananas" ended up being killed in a crash with a tractor-trailer on the Long Island Expressway.
